We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrés Monnier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrés, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I guess that from my little perspective, once we arrive to this human experience we are conditioned on what to believe, what to feel and what to be. Having an artistic or creative career it’s my way to defy the systems and play the game, with many twists. Like a Trojan horse in my little fantasy…

Mostly we live in automatic on our lives. The world we live in has a specific design and we are teach to follow the invisible and imaginary rules of the system of each civilization.

When we are born we are assigned with a name and based on the geographical location we were born and the epoch of time, we are surrounded by a series of sociocultural conditionings (religion, culture, nationality, stereotypes, constructs) that dictate the way we have to perceive our existence. Meaning we’ll have a reference of how you have to build a system of believes that mostly we are not conscious about.

Currently we are living in a stage of humanity where we are exposed to an enormous quantity of technologies and information that make difficult to stop for a moment and do a deep introspection of how we build the concept of our identity in an individual and collective context.

Questioning the ways on how this human world works and analyzing history can make a significant difference on where are we leading this world.
The human world is an imaginary world, meaning that mostly everything we conceive is just an idea. Nationalities, religions, culture, capitalism, consumerism, money and a lot of excuses that are just feeding an anthropocentric system that is killing the planet we live in.

Having an artistic career has been really challenging and harsh, but at the same time, it has give me a sense of freedom on surviving in this human world by having fun and really enjoying life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had learn a lot of lessons in the recent years. Most of the time in my life I believed in the concept of failure, but at the end, there are no failures in life but learning. Changing the way I was perceiving this idea helped to appreciate any kind of opportunity or part of the process in my work.

I didn’t study architecture or design, but in the last years I had realized the impact that design has in this physical world… design is everywhere.
HUMAN has a specific design, as the modern (and disconnected) world we live in and the interpretation we give to reality.

One of the biggest lessons I had learn is to question everything I’m surrounded. Just as the concepts of men and women, ego, religion, culture, etc. Each concept and idea has a unique way to be, but what are the possibilities of changing the design of these concepts? It isn’t possible or we just limit our mind capabilities?

Each one of us has a specific perspective of reality, an exceptional neuroplasticity. But had vou ever question why do you believe what you believe? Or you just lived in automatic as vou arrived to this human experience with your assigned name, vessel (body), genetic code, and sociocultural conditionings based in the geographical location you were born?

Questioning and defying the ideas I had in my head and the ones I was surrounded with… saved my life. As well to connect with nature and have a better dialogue with the concept of my identity. To build mental hygiene and trying to make this world a better place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always love to visit any place that is in dialogue with nature. Where you can find natural resources to connect with this universe and just contemplate life.

Going to the beach it’s one of my favorite things to do in the city. There are plenty of spots in the city where you can appreciate some families enjoying their time, feeling the fresh air, the sun and to see the immense and beautiful sea.

I would recommend this restaurant called Valle Ocean Side from a tremendous culinary artist: Roberto Alcocer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Galerie Philia it’s a design and sculpture gallery that had impulse my work since the beginning of my career.
