We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Simonian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andres, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Doing what I love and seeing how it affects others. There is no validation in this world like putting your art out there, with all your heart and soul and then having people come up to you to tell you they love it. It is affirmation from the universe that you are doing the right thing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing is easy but you can’t sit around and wait for anything to happen. I walked into a theatre one day and asked for a job doing anything. Next thing I know, I’m working there on the weekends and within a couple months I was starring in my first play. 3 years later and I opened up my own backyard theatre where I premiered a show I created and acted in. The important thing is to know why you’re doing what you’re doing. Your purpose is your north star and it will get you through the tough times. Just make sure that your purpose is something you can achieve for yourself, and not something that is dependent on others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always take friends to Lagniappe because I love the chill feeling that the lounge/bar has. I also take them to the Microtheatre to show them local arts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Luciano Cortes is my acting partner, teacher, and leader. He has helped me to elevate my art and craft beyond what I could have imagined.
