We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Anglero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had this sense of wanting to incorporate music into my life. My father’s side of my family were heavy into music. One of my uncles Roberto Anglero was a producer for a lot of Hispanic salsa groups like “El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico”. Music has gotten me through some of the lowest points of my life and has uplifted me in ways unimaginable. I believe that having a creative outlet allows you to expand your mindset and fulfills a lot of my creative needs.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an open format DJ and I also curate open mic events in Miami. Allowing all creatives to come and share their passions with the world. To me, it is important to showcase all art and talents mainly because the music scene is so controlled these days. If you don’t look a certain way or if art isn’t up to par, it is often judged. For me, I enjoy allowing all forms of creativity on my stage. It inspires me and it allows a safe place for all artists.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you want to party and have great drinks/food my recommendation would be Wynwood in Miami. You have a variety within a 2 mile distance. You can visit art galleries then hit up Coyo Tacos for some amazing tacos to the hitting up some of the local lounges for drinks and fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to Ed Mylett and his book The Power of One More. This book has challenged me to always push myself to not only give it my all, but to give anything I do one more push. Whether it’s one more set of reps while working out, dialing one more number before I end my day job. It’s been my guide to push myself further than my capacity. It’s one of my favorite personal development books.
