We had the good fortune of connecting with Angellina Monae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angellina, why did you pursue a creative career?
Why did I pursue a creative career? That is a great question actually. When I look back, this is honestly who I’ve always been. I’ve always been a creative person who loved showcasing it through entrepreneurship. I remember being a kid and randomly, impulsively deciding to start my first business. I was so determined to do something. 11 year old me was so elated to get at least $20 each order so that I could help out my Mom. I would sell my art work, such as drawings, paintings and even tattoo designs, to people around the world. I guess you can say that’s when the dream of having a creative career really came about. It’s just something about that feeling you get in your heart when you know that your work has done something to either help or simply make somebody else as happy as it has made you. That’s what I love so much about owning a skincare business. I’m able to make others just as happy and feel just as confident in their own skin as my products have made me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I, Angellina Monae, am the owner/CEO of Glacée Beauty LLC, which is a Skincare Business. I create skincare products that aid in helping conditions like acne, hyperpigmentation, eczema and etc. The main purpose of my brand is to build confidence. The goal should always be to build healthy skin, rather than “perfect skin”. We are dedicated to celebrating and empowering REAL skin because everyone deserves to feel just as beautiful without makeup on, as they do with it on. I’ve struggled with my skin since I can remember so I understand the pain. Your skin is beautiful no matter your gender, skin tone, shape or size and you deserve to know that.

Many don’t know, but I actually started my business out of my college dorm room at just 17 years old in 2019 and it became official in February of 2020. I first started off selling lipgloss and body oils because I wanted to start small. Business was definitely a struggle in the beginning and I had no clue what I was doing but I was excited to be able to say I had the business. I probably made only about $50 the first few months, but once June hit and I started to really promote on instagram, sales started going up quick! Well that was until my mother got sick and I had to close down for some months as she was in the hospital. That was a huge setback for me, but my mothers health was way more important. After my mom got really sick, I started to think a lot more about how life’s too short and realized that it was time for me to just take the risk and make the big jump into something bigger. December of 2020 is when I finally did it. I finally made the big jump.

2021 ended up not being my best year either, but I learned so much and now I am proud to say that within these first few months of 2022, I’ve done better than I have in 2020 + 2021 combined. My biggest challenge was simply my lack of knowledge. I learned from my mistakes and that’s my best advice to other businesses. Don’t ignore your mistakes because they make you feel “embarrassed”. Examine your mistakes and figure out what you can do differently. My biggest accomplishment is I kept going. When I felt like a failure, I kept going. When I felt burn out, I kept going. When people told me I wouldn’t get anywhere, I kept going. And when my dream finally started becoming a reality, I KEPT GOING.

I want the world to know that Glacée Beauty LLC is not just some random brand owned by someone who’s hungry for your money. This is a community. A family. I want my customers to feel like I’m that big sister that they never had, or wish theirs was like, that is here to give them those beauty tips they’ve been looking for, build their confidence and let them know that they are beautiful just the way they are and deserve to feel that way as well. Without them, Glacée Beauty would not be anything. Without them I would not be complete.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first I would bring them to the best spot I know. My office! Who doesn’t love skincare! But all jokes aside, I would want to take them to Lake Mead. Being from California, I love being by the water and this is the closest we’re going to get to that in Vegas. It’s just something so peaceful about laying next to the water with your girls and just relaxing after a long week of working. I’d would also love to take them to the Las Vegas strip to explore. Anyone who knows me knows that I love sushi and boba so we can’t skip out on those! We’ll definitely have to go to my favorite sushi place Sushi Hero and my favorite boba shop Ume Tea Shop. Who would have thought this question would be so hard to answer. With how busy I am, I guess you could say it would be an adventure for me as well choosing places we should go and try out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents truly don’t get as much recognition as they should for the success of my business. They may not have been able to help me out the most financially when it came to starting my business, but they’ve helped me out so much mentally which is a big thing! With all the stresses and sleepless nights that go along with growing my business, without them, I honestly would have gone insane by now. It’s the little things that keep me going like my mom texting me a bunch of quotes and pictures saying “this is gonna be you one day” haha or even my dad coming downstairs, giving me a hug and then grabbing some boxes to package when I’m overwhelmed. They’ve always been the ones who saw the dream before anyone else could simply because I said that I’m going to do it and for that I am so thankful. I’m not just doing this to fulfill my dreams of having a successful business, but also for them. Even growing up poor, they were able to provide so much support for me that I want to be able to do the same for them one day.
