We had the good fortune of connecting with Anilla Lalbiharie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a lash artist from Trinidad and I’m also working on another brand. And from the very beginning of both my brands, “BareBeautytt” and “Pretty B****” I wanted what I’m producing and offering make my buyers and clients feel exceptional and top tier . I wanted to create or influence a lifestyle but no specific lifestyle. Allow me to explain, when I started BareBeautytt in 2020, my idea was to influence self care. In my life journey I realized how much self care helped me and how deep it is. I started off with the ideas of lip kits, like lip scrubs, lip oils, lip balms, lip masks and lip gloss. As simple as these items are, having them made me feel motivated to take care of myself and when I took care of myself it opened a completely different world for me mentally, where I am genuinely happy no matter what. I used my social media and talked about self care A LOT and I did my constant research and persons started reaching out about self care and how much it was helping them. I want females to wake up and feel like their best ,beautiful, top tier selves everyday , so my next thought was what service can I provide that shouts “ Luxury” or “I’m HER” and then I thought of lash extensions! As a female whether others like it or not we like getting and feeling pretty, we like feeling soft and feminine, we like like doing all the extra stuff because it helps us mentally, it’s a tool , it’s a lifestyle! This is also where Pretty B**** comes in. Pretty B**** is a vibe, an aura, a mental state, an inner energy that shines through your bones and skin from the moment you wake. It’s not just the products, and has absolutely nothing to do with the physical world. The girls that get it, get it and the girls that don’t, don’t. It fits any style and every shape and every size. From walking around your house to a grocery run or night in, etc. It enhances these simple things in my opinion. Dress up or dress down it fits every criteria. I think of it as a lifestyle brand. It’s something I’d look at and feel motivated to do and be my best. It’s a visual of my higher self, It’ll encourage females to be and continue to be the most beautiful, sassy, stylish, kickass, laid back, whimsical creatures they are. It’s a mood, it’s a vibe, it’s a lifestyle. The idea behind my brands is really just to empower females and make them feel their best to do their best. People will say “you don’t need material things to feel beautiful and be happy“ and they’ll go on and on and on and I agree 100% but I strongly believe being happy and feeling beautiful is a mindset aka a mental state so you have to keep working to maintain that momentum and these brands are the motivation that a female wants to conquer HER world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Besides being a lash tech, I’m many other things but I’d talk about me being a model. In my opinion a model is not just someone looks good on camera or walks on a runway. A model is a creative artist, who understands the idea of body art, whether it’s poses, facial expressions, body language, confidence, fashion, style, attitude etc. It means something different to every person but that’s a few for me. I think my special feature is my face, specifically my eyes, I’ve been told on many occasions that my eyes pierce souls. I’m excited to really show how creative I am, it’s not only about being sexy. I’m excited to start pitching myself to brands and working with new people. I’ve always wanted to be a model and do photo shoots since a photographer walked up to my parents and left his call card when I was about 10, my father did want that so I just had that dream until I turned 18 and did my first shoot and after everybody was like “I want her” . My first shoot was easy but being a model at least a consistent model is not the easiest thing, at least in Trinidad. Im still overcoming challenges but I’m doing what I can with what I have and being patient. One important lesson I’ve learnt is as a model you need to be very careful of your image and keep your head on because the Industry is so tricky you can fall into traps and mess up your reputation and image. Being a model is not always glamorous. Im still writing my story and I will continue to for as long as I live. I just want the world to know to look out for Pretty B**** lol
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take my friend to Tobago. The perfect tropical getaway. I’d plan down to our airport outfits even though Tobago is 15mins away by plane. Perfect blue waters, hot sun. We’d do hikes to waterfalls , to late night drinks by the pool. We’d HAVE to try a beach bar, it’s a dream to get drunk off margaritas in a beach bar and dance for the entire evening in bikinis and nets with shells, we’d take a jet to the nylon pool and hop off and stand literally in the middle of the ocean. We must eat curry crab and dumpling, roast fish and jerk chicken from that man on the vice stretch. On the weekend we’d party HARD from Jade monkey to all those clubs I can’t remember the names of , to Sunday school and we’d cool with an evening in Store Bay
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
