We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoinett Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antoinett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Educating and nurturing children are my passion and purpose in life. I was supervising my school’s afterschool program and coming home venting to my family about things I want to change in order to better meet the needs of the students in the program academically, social emotionally, and culturally. In January 2021, my dad pushed me into fulfilling my purpose. He said, “why run someone else program when you can create your own. God placed you in that position to learn the tools you need to succeed on your own.” I prayed for courage, strength, will, and endurance to create my own path and that is what I did.
What should our readers know about your business?
Renewed Minds Educational Enrichment Center is fulfilling need of the Opa Locka community to support the educational success of students in this area when families in the area do not earn enough wages to seek private tutoring for their children. Renewed Minds Educational Enrichment Center (RMEEC) will support this need with homework assistance, after school/summer tutoring, mentoring, academic enrichment, project based learning (PBL), and social emotional learning (SEL). RMEEC seeks to service students in kindergarten through eighth grade and have high school students prepare for graduation with volunteering for community service hours. Services are provided afterschool Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:00 pm during the school year and Monday through Friday from 8:00 am -4:00 pm during the summer.
The mission of RMEEC is to service the Opa Locka community by increasing academic achievement, enhance decision-making skills, improved health/wellness, and increased parental involvement.
The Vision of RMEEC is to gain academic success in all students by connecting emotional intelligence to the public-school rigor of education and mold discipline through developmental pathways of learning and support.
Many thanks to the state of Florida and State Representative Dr. James Bush for making my business apart of the Florida Department of Education. This was not an easy task, there were long days and much paperwork that came with making sure my business was up to the standards of the State of Florida.
What I want the world to know is to never settle for anything!! Keep growing and learning. The life we live is meant to be a cycle of mental evolution. Also, when someone says you can’t, or you’re too young, or no, make it your mission to prove them wrong because the bible says as long as you have Christ, ALL things are possible.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give all the honor and glory to God, who is first in my life. Thank you to my parents Rev. Anthony Brown and Carolyn Hepburn-Brown for their unwavering support, dedication to my vision, and raising me to be who I am. Thank you to the love of my life Latravis McLean for always holding me up and supporting me. Thank you to my brother, Ramone Fluellen for nominating me for this amazing interview and always supporting my business. Thank you to my family, church family (Renewed Bethel Baptist Church), staff, and the city of Opa Locka.
