We had the good fortune of connecting with Arthur Vazquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arthur, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I developed a passion for martial arts training while I was still a teenager. Being frequently bullied and having low self confidence pushed me towards martial arts, as I felt it gave me the strength and confidence to stand up for myself and develop better character. My business idea grew out of my own experiences, and my desire to share the positive impact martial arts can have on an individual. I believe that mastering any difficult craft, such as martial arts, is an excellent way to develop yourself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey has been anything but easy. It’s been full of trials, difficulties, fear, doubt, and all the other challenges that life throws at us. But if we had no such obstacles, life would be so dull. It’s our hardship that makes life beautiful and gives it a sense of meaning. With each challenge that we overcome, we emerge as a stronger person, full of wisdom and resilience.
Martial arts, especially Jiu-Jitsu, are a great example of this. The thought of going to class can be daunting, to say the least. But that’s what makes it so special. After every session, our confidence grows, and we learn something new, pushing towards self-fulfillment. Our hard work pays off, and we become more than we were before class.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any where at night is the place to be in Miami. Miami’s night life is definitely something to witness, and be prepared to dance!
But the best place to be is Dungeon Martial Arts / Reapers Jiu-Jitsu haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am filled with immense gratitude for the people in my life who have been there for me and supported me throughout my journey.
Firstly, my students, for putting their trust in me as a teacher and coming to my classes, often late at night. Putting in hard work and developing themselves.
My friends for supporting me and never turning their back on me, even when times were tough, and I had difficulty believing in myself. I have an amazing friend support system, and I’m so grateful for them. You know who you guys are.
My parents and brother for loving and supporting me every day. They have to deal with me, and that’s no picnic. Plus, they really believe in what I’m doing, and I’m grateful for that.
My coach and mentor Kenny for showing me a different way of looking at martial arts, guiding, and helping me reach where I am today and continue to be going. I seriously do not know if I would still be doing martial arts today if it wasn’t for the insights and unending support he has given me.
Finally, my life partner Sandra, who is my rock and the source of my strength. I am forever grateful for all that she does for me and for being by my side every step of the way. You are amazing, and I’m so blessed to have you in my life.
