We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley-marie Weston (ashley.maybe) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley-Marie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My Step-Father, Dr. Vaughn Clemens, has always described me as a woman that can do anything. I just have to WANT to do it. If I don’t have the desire, it won’t get done. With that in mind, he told me to find the lifestyle I want and build a business around that.
The day before I went live and started my business, I cried myself to sleep and tried my best to talk myself out of it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a few businesses now. The Ashley.Maybe Experience is an umbrella to about 3 businesses.
I have a boutique cigar line that is still based in Miami. I live in Zanzibar also and have been slowly bringing my brand there.
The Ashley.Maybe Experience is also a culinary tour of Zanzibar I host a few times a year. It’s an inclusive getaway that includes a daily indulgent food experience.
Lastly, I now have a restaurant in Stonetown, Zanzibar that’s open 7days a wk. We have live music, a fun menu, and full bar.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would always have them visit the speakeasy spots in Miami. They are a beautiful surprise. Bodega, Los Altos, and Dante’s Hi-Fi
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mother and my StepFather!
They have always encouraged me to find my “thing”. I have had many jobs and career changes. They simply wanted me to be happy.
My stepfather told me something years ago that I never forgot. “Ashley, you can do ANYTHING. You actually have that talent that you can do anything you want to do. You just have WANT to do it. Find the lifestyle you want and build your business/career around that!”
