We had the good fortune of connecting with Aswand Cruickshank and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aswand, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“It’s important to have an end to a journey. But it’s the journey that matters in the end.”
What this quotes means to me, is to “keep trying.” One of the most loaded questions that a person can be asked is, “Who are you?” most feel compelled to respond with their name (and/or) what they do for a living. Whenever I am asked this question, my response is “I’m Aswand, someone that is Always trying.” This quote serves as a reminder that although everything in life will not go according to planned, it’s in the trying times that we experience the growth that’ll lead us to our true purpose.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from most other career coaches, thought leaders, authors, podcast hosts, and speakers, is the unique blend of teamwork and individual work that my brand represents. For example as I’m writing this. My podcast, the “Move Swiftly Podcast,” is approaching 200 episodes. I’ve published more solo episodes then episodes in which I’ve had a guest speaking about how they found their career. I’m really proud of that because my mission in life is the serve current athletes and their families by providing resources that’ll help them when the athlete is no longer playing his or her sport, and with that unique blend of teamwork and individual work it becomes something that is easier for these families to understand and take advantage of.
No, not at all. This is not an easy process, I’m still in the process of overcoming a lot of challenges, however that’s why I do this work. For the challenges. The challenges confirm to me that my work fills a need, and knowing that it fills a need helps me understand that it’s not all about me, it’s about making the world better by setting up an infrastructure that gives people the opportunity to work hard.
The biggest lesson. Is to not assume anything. I’ve learned that just because I’m ready for people to buy a service doesn’t mean they’ll be ready, and it’s my job to keep coming up with ideas and strategies that strengthen my offering, so when folks are ready to buy, it will benefit them. The one thing I want people to know about my brand and story, is to “Come Ready to Work.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is Miami. So it’s almost impossible for me to scale this down to only a week, but for me I’m always in either a sports bar, at a sporting event or trying out a new fitness class.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
