We had the good fortune of connecting with Bere Gonzalo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bere, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is so important to your mental health and success, specially in this country as hard-working as the US. It is easy to become distracted with career goals and exhaust yourself week after week surrounded with work. But I believe that we only live once and that just worrying about work is not sustainable to live a happy healthy life. I was always good at balancing my life balance because even though my mom worked crazy hours and many days a week. she would always find time for us and her hobbies, and she always told me how important it was to enjoy life as it is too short. I work a lot, but always take some time to read a book, watch a series or travel at least twice a year. The rest of the time, I’m working. I used to have a rule in college which was, on Friday there is no school work. Even though I was crammed, I believed Friday was my day of making my own decisions with my time. I would put my worries away. Now, I choose one day a week, depending on the week, and take it for myself or for my family if they are visiting. I will work hard when I have to, but will always have that “relaxation/enjoyment” time to clear my head and live life!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to do latin Pop and Reggaeton mostly, which involves a lot of electronic production. That’s why I wanted to learn more, to be one of the girls that knows how to produce, mix and record; apart from just writing and singing. I was really scared in the beginning to embark and audio engineering journey. It was mostly guys and I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I put a lot of work into the more technical side of music and started loving it. I wanted to add something more into the male dominated genre that is reggaeton, and I was not the only one! After I started, I met so many girls doing the same thing, which inspired me and helped me grow. I worked hard and now I am a songwriter who can produce/engineer, which helps me communicate better and contribute more to the music! I currently work at a recording Studio as an assistant engineer and as a recording engineer, non-stop growing! I want everyone to know that, even though I might not be the most talented singer or musician, I worked hard to have the knowledge to contribute and to help everyone grow! Great vibes and work ethic are as or even more important than pure talent; so if you have the talent, work hard to develop it more and be humble!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first thing I would do is take them to eat some delicious Venezuelan food, personally I love Saman Arepas! I would also give them a little tour of the city, starting in the beach. I really like Surfside as it is not as packed as south beach, but is equally as beautiful. I would also go to see some live music, maybe to Casa Tua or Bodega. We would also visit the Wynwood walls and go to Calle ocho for some salsa!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my family, because of all of their support for my crazy dreams and because they didn’t let me have doubts . A shoutout to my friends and loved ones for rooting for me! Another one to Quaz and 13Fox Audio, for always believing in me and teaching me how to grow professionally. One for Rebel 11 Studios, where I work and feel everyone’s support and faith in me. I also want to thank everyone that has collaborated in music with me, you all have made me learn and grow so much.
