We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Platanella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bethany, what inspires you?
Clean food, bright colors, laughter, movement, adventure & aging gracefully.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
During the beginning stages of quarantine, my neighbors and I were all jobless, so we brainstormed nightly about different projects we could start to make some money. We wanted to work with something we love. And we love food. We also knew that farms in Homestead were fertilizing the surplus of crops that restaurants were no longer buying. There had to be a way to get these fruits and veggies on people’s plates. Why not chop them up into beautiful salads and deliver locally? And from there, Beach Baby Green was born!
We deliver fresh, raw salads right to your door. All plant-based and as organic and local as possible, Beach Baby Green salads are absolutely gorgeous, delicious and they’re huge! I am so proud of our product and how far we’ve come in such a short period of time!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well firstly I hope this friend has lots of energy and an appetite as big as mine. I love Miami, so showing it off is one of my favorite past times and it deserves one full week of discovery. Hard to narrow it down but here are a few of my favorite things! For movement we’d hit an AM Beach Boot Camp at Soho Beach House, bike South Pointe Park and the Venetian bridges, then take the Metromover through high rises of Downtown/Brickell and if it’s Saturday, wed continue south to support local at the Coconut Grove Farmers Market. We would definitely enjoy some natural wines at Margot Natural Wine bar pop up, Happy Hour at Michael’s Genuine in Design District or Melinda’s Downtown. Since it’s Miami, ceviche is a must as is a night of tapas and wine at Bar Meli. PAMM is a must, as is a ballet at the Arsht Center. I love to go to Improv at Villian Theatre in Little Haiti and see live jazz at Lagniappe in Design District or Le Chat Noir Downtown.
Finally, for the simple fact that this is Miami, we’d spend every weekday possible on the beach! (with Sandwicherie to-go!)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partners, Steve & Desiree. Not only did they approach me with the unique and fantastic concept of Beach Baby Green, a Raw Salad Subscription Service, they guide me through those “Why am I doing this again?” moments. They drag me to hole-in-the-wall Caribbean joints around town, banter about local politics and gossip, debate the city’s best vegan junk food and, most importantly, they make me laugh every day.
