We had the good fortune of connecting with Biljana Pavlevska and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Biljana, is there something you believe many others might not?
That always seeking new clients is needed! I’ve found that focusing on sustaining the people that I already work with by providing the very highest quality in my hairstyling services has been more beneficial for success. Quality over seeking to grow has allowed me to build a loyal client base and establish a strong reputation–which, in turn, leads to growth. Sure, you can grow fast, but if you lose focus on quality, clients will go elsewhere.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think a big part of me, like all of us, is where I come from and my family. I was born in Macedonia, a small country of only two million people in southern Europe, just north of Greece. My parents and brother are hardworking, down-to-earth people, and I think I am very fortunate in this. I feel I am very grounded and I can be brutally honest! (You want your stylist telling you the truth!)
My interest in hairstyling and beauty was always something “inside me”; I started working as a stylist at the age of 15 and by the time I was 21 I owned my own salon in downtown Skopje. You have to grow up fast in such a challenged country, and this along with my family has led me to have a strong sense of both initiative and responsibility. I think this manifests in my success today.
The first thing about my art that sets my apart is my creativity. I can literally “see” what will work and not work for my clients, in terms of color, cut, and styling. This is true for a client’s permanent style or for an event, such as a wedding or photoshoot. I am very dedicated and try to provide the same high level of listening and service to all my clients, be they a huge music star, corporate executive, mother, grandmother, or all-of-the-above!
I am most proud of my journey to the US and my success here. I came in 2012 and am now a proud citizen. I love this country and the opportunity it has afforded me. I think this is one of the things that means the most to me.
All-in-all, I am a hardworking and very creative stylist that is so grateful to all my clients and for the amazing success that I have had.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question and an easy one- because my cousin and his wife just visited from Macedonia. We took them to the quaint and fantastic Miami restaurant Brasserie on Brickell Key, that has been there for decades and is a favorite. I also took them on a boat tour around the Venetian Islands and Biscayne Bay, which is an amazing way to spend the day soaking up our amazing Florida sun in our beautiful ocean. The next day we had an amazing breakfast at Zak the Baker in Wynwood, which is right next to our Savanna Marie Salon. Last, of course I love taking people to South Beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Savanna Marie Paladino! Savanna is a friend and mentor that I appreciate on so many levels. She’s such an amazing stylist to work with and I really enjoy our collaboration.
