We had the good fortune of connecting with Bird Club and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bird, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of starting Bird Club Sneaker Tees in 2006 was simply the lack of options to match your sneakers as a consumer. Sneakers are released every week and the options of clothing to match offered by the big brands were minimal and lame at that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our sneaker-oriented designs are made specifically to match your favorite pair of sneakers. Our designs are themed perfectly in color and in history to make an eye-catching combination. We have labeled ourselves the #1 Sneaker Matching Site in the World, simply because we know we offer unique and creative apparel that no other brand is able to create. Many brands out there are very repetitive therefore we try to bring fresh concepts to every sneaker release. Our latest challenge was surprisingly a week ago, where we had to start a new IG account from zero. We were sent a notification that our IG since 2012 was falsely reported as inappropriate and 10 years’ worth of our sneaker apparel posts were gone just like that. After many appeals, the good people at Instagram didn’t side with our claims that our artwork and apparel are the property of Bird Club Sneaker Tees. Unfortunately, word has been circulating that other brands are making false claims to eliminate strong competition, But a minor setback equals a major comeback.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d have to definitely say Wynwood & South Beach. Wynwood has become such an attraction with an endless amount of things to do. The selection of eateries is amazing, the selection of shopping is great as well, the pop-up events are always exciting, and just strolling up and down the streets and admiring the art talents our city has to offer is always fascinating. Strolling through South Beach is also a must as what’s seen on TV comes to life for many visitors. You can’t say Miami without thinking beach, therefore a day needs to be saved for beach time as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to start from the beginning in 2006 by shouting out my two business partners at the time Tyrone & Melo. We came up with the idea, did our research, and started designing our first shirt later making Bird Club a Miami household name. Along the way, there have been many opportunities for exposure such as trade shows, sneaker conventions, magazine interviews, etc. Those also helped the brand grow in revenue and popularity. These shows were not local all the time, therefore quite a bit of traveling was needed. So, a HUGE shout out to my wife, for her support and patience as she became my travel partner practically every weekend for almost two years.
