We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Knotts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bob, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m a writer — 27 books, five plays, countless poems, lyrics and thousands of journalism pieces for every kind of outlet: major magazines such as Sports Illustrated and Travel & Leisure; newspapers including the NY Times, broadcast pieces, both TV and radio. I worked as a journalist for CBS affiliates in broadcast for several years and for the Sun-Sentinel as an investigative reporter for five and a half years. My writings led me to feel the need to put my ideas into practical effect with a nonprofit group. I founded the Humanity Project in 2005.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Too long a story to recount in a few words. But briefly, I have long believed the world is in the mess it is because we individuals are struggling within. My work, both as a writer and as THP president, involves laboring to identify the underlying problems causing our self-doubt and self-criticism… and to figure out ways to alleviate this huge problem. My 600-page book, “Beyond Me: Dissecting ego to find the innate love at humanity’s core” explores this issue in great detail, both the problem and solutions. All THP programs & materials address the same issue.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lunch at Paradise Tiki in Dania Beach to start. Dinners along the Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood beaches. Airboat ride for sure. Tour of South Beach. A slow drive up A1A. A walk down the jetty at Mizell-Johnson State Park. Among other things.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many. Among authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Dr. Jacob Bronowski stand out. Among living people, the Humanity Project would not be where it is today without the help of Bob LaMendola and Dr. Laura Finley, both active board members and part of our THP (The Humanity Project) Executive Committee.
