We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenton, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Creating music has always been my outlet. It’s kind of like that scene from the movie “Cast Away” when Tom Hank’s character is trying to make a fire. He works tirelessly to gather the right pieces and tries to get the fire going again and again until that moment of success where he actually gets the fire going.

That is just like how I feel when I’m creating, I love the process of trying different things when I’m creating music. The moment it all clicks and comes together, I feel like Tom Hanks dancing around the fire EVERY time. Even if no one can see it or hear it, I know I did it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It took a while to get to the place I’m in now where I can create freely and curate my sound.

I’ve been through different pseudonyms, different teams, groups, managers (some real and some fake). I’ve taken hiatuses where I wanted to give up but thats all part of the journey.

Obstacles have always been meant to go through rather than over under or around for me. Anytime one came up, whether it was getting the equipment to record, learning how to record, learning how to mix my music or learning how to produce my music, I just had to go through the process of doing it.

Because practice makes perfect and I have this love of the process, challenges were met through action, doing the thing and adding it to my skillset.

Long story short: My music career started when my older brother came home with Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” album in ‘96. I would sneak away and listen to that album on repeat and I wanted to impress my brother by making rhymes. I was horrible, but it became a guilty pleasure and then a passion.

I was still horrible through high school but I got better in college because I had a group of friends who recorded and created constantly, so I had a real soundboard to bounce my creations off of and way to compare my music to my peers.

I got better and better with time and consistency and I’m still getting better.

My brand is centered more on authenticity of sound and doing what you want despite what the crowd or your “haters” think, hence my motto and imprint, B.R.V.O. Which stands for Be Real Vs Opposition.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I discovered Kava bars back in 2017 and they’ve been a part of my routine since then so I’d with start with a KG at Kava Garden or a Komodo at The Purple Lotus to get the vibes right, then I would hit Wynwood for a burger at Kush or where ever Drinking Pig BBQ pops up.

If drinks and dancing are the move, I’d hit 1-800-Lucky or Dante’s Hi-Fi.

But other than that I’m boring. I’m never on the scene that much.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I hate to be this person (seriously) but I have to first shout out everyone who said I was horrible at music when I was starting out. You all made me work my ass off to get better, you all put that Energizer battery in my back to keep me going. Thank you!
