Meet Brian D. Ovelar | Soccer coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian D. Ovelar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian D., how does your business help the community?
As a soccer coach, I don’t just train athletes; I train people. I guide children through their physical, strategic, and emotional development, fostering values such as respect, teamwork, and resilience. My work helps create safe spaces where young people grow with confidence, learn to compete with awareness, and prepare to be better on and off the field.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Soccer has been more than a sport for me; it’s been a school of life, and over time, my calling. It was the result of years of effort and constant learning. Being a coach isn’t just about designing tactics or winning matches. It’s about inspiring, building character, and leading by example. And that’s the part that excites me most about my profession: knowing that, through soccer, I can leave a positive mark on the lives of others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go visit the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a historic mansion with European-style gardens, Little Havana, stroll down Calle Ocho, see how cigars are made, dance salsa, and have a Cuban coffee.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thanks to West Pines United FC, Director of Coaching Todd Goodman, and Alex Valencia for their trust.
