We had the good fortune of connecting with Brielle Mayberg Halbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brielle, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started building my career in 2018, I had one adorable baby. The nanny would arrive I left home early, came back late afternoon, zonked and hungry. I just wanted to sit down to dinner and rest. Work was the last thing I wanted to talk about after a long day, even though my work is my passion. Family involvement was minimal in my work-routine, there was no ‘time,’ ‘energy’ or ‘need’ for it.
When covid hit, my now-3 toddlers were all home- together. Being my own business owner, I was able to continue booking meetings and making things move, all via video instead of in person meetings. Of course, this had its’ own set of challenges. But it also had an unexpected positive change to my work-life balance.
Work was home and home was work- there was virtually no separation. We lived with relatives for a large chunk of the quarantine, so there were multiple adults (in addition to my husband) around to bounce ideas off of, etc. I started to bring up work, even at the dinner table. I found the ideas generated amongst my family started opening my mind to brand new ideas!
While I want to maintain healthy work-life boundaries, I now invite my family in and let them be apart of what I am working on. This shift has made such a positive change in the generation of new ideas that my company is now beginning to work on. I am finding myself so much more passionate now that my family is apart of the picture.
I am looking towards a future with more innovation in the company than ever before. It is so exciting and all thanks to the expansion of the work-life boundaries.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The All Day Alba brand crafts garments. But not just any garments. There are so many apparel brands out there, and good ones! No need to compete in such a crowded market.
I grew up in an entrepreneurial environment, teaching me to originate. I wanted to work in fashion, in order to invent a category of clothing that did not yet exist. I always believed as en entrepreneur, that differentiating matter most because it serves the people something they never even knew they needed but that would change their lives for the better.
I coined “fashionwear” as a new category of clothing, that combines activewear and high fashion. I am determined to design the clothing every woman wants but can not find. Comfortable, elegant, classy, stretchy. I am so thrilled to have been able to fill a wardrobe void for so many women and make their day to day dressing, simpler and more exciting.
Every woman who puts the pieces on her body says the fabric is magic, and when she looks in the mirror she, for the first time, feels dressed up while at the same time wearing the most comfortable and durable fabrics imaginable.
I completed my initial mission: the ultimate fusion of fashion and function. You’ve got to check out Serena Top and Nadia Pant set; it is like an elevated jogger set on steroids that can be worn, literally, from the gym to the board room.
But as an entrepreneur, I want to dig deeper. I am taking my concept one step further and am excited to debut my enhanced direction when it goes public during the summer. Think: lifesize polly pockets. Please stay tuned!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Spa E on Lincoln Road to pamper and unwind. What I love about this unique spa is that the chairs are in a row (not private rooms) so you can get a facials beside your BFF. Also, a great time saving hack: they will give you a facial, manicure and pedicure at one time!
Zak the Baker in Wynwood for the best fresh sourdough breads imaginable. Walking around the artsy area is also a lot of fun.
Back to my neck of the woods – Bal Harbour – for window shopping around the Bal Harbour shops. The shops are my ultimate inspiration. I love to check on what the mainstream trends are so that I can make sure I consider the trends and also find where the gaps are while I work on a differential product line.
On the top level, there is an incredible organic gelato store that will make you Affogato.
I like to unwind with a Barre class at the Exhale Spa. Views of the bay and ocean at sunset WHILE getting the best workout of your life, is the ultimate way to end the day and enter the evening.
I would definitely find a place for live music for the night event. There is so much great live music in this city.
Miami has it all – luxury, culture and arts, mouthwatering food, shopping, and non-stop events.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Maria Pesin, founder of Vibe Consulting. Maria is an expert in fashion merchandising who guided my young company early on. She always believed in me as a young entrepreneur and gave me the encouragement I needed when I felt ‘shaky’ on my path. I always think back to her positive encouragement and how she assured me that I could do this, with baby steps and an open mind. It is important to have a birdie on your shoulder, and a bonus when it is one who is proficient in the field you are in, who believes in you. This person will whisper sound advice into your ear, and it will make a big difference in your journey.
