Meet Brittny Bishop | Online Business Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittny Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittny, how do you think about risk?
My mindset doesn’t gravitate towards the fear/failure feelings associated with risk. I view risks as opportunities. Sure there are some risks that scare the crap out of me, but how exciting that we get to make choices in our life that scare us like that.
Up until recently, most of the risks I took involved my career. How will this risk help me learn more, make more money, and grow within this company? I didn’t go to college, it just wasn’t in my cards, so instead I found a job on craigslist and I ended up spending 10 years with that company, moving and chasing a role I would later find out I hated.
I took a risk and left that company in April 2020, right when the pandemic hit for the exact same role at another company. I just saw this bright, new, and shiny opportunity, new company, more money, more training, etc.. It was an opportunity to have a company train me properly and invest the time to ensure my success in the role. I never once thought, “I probably shouldn’t switch jobs when so many are losing them.” However, I ended up burning out very quickly because it confirmed the role as a business consultant within a franchise concept wasn’t for me. Fast forward to May 2021, I took a vacation to Costa Rica.
I left Costa Rica knowing I was moving there by the end of the year. Everything felt right, I was leaving a job I hated and started my own online business management company, Pura Vida Virtual Solutions. I briefly considered applying for remote roles with another company, but I no longer see myself working in the 9-5 grind again. Six months after my vacation, I was living in Costa Rica and Pura Vida Virtual Solutions is supporting business owners all over the world. I chose to look at the opportunities versus the risk because if I chose to look at the risks, I may never have moved.

What should our readers know about your business?
Pura Vida Virtual Solutions was started to bring hands-on support to 6 & 7 figure entrepreneurs and small business owners that feel like they may never have the support or partnership they need to support growth and freedom. Online Business Managers play a vital role in many businesses, we’re really remote Director of Operations for ecommerce or brick and mortar businesses, but you save money because we’re not in-house. For years, I traveled the US supporting entrepreneurs with operations, training, systems, merchandising, marketing, and customer experience. I’ve led teams of 100+ employees across multiple locations. I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned from those opportunities and experiences and support more businesses towards consistent and efficient growth!
Starting this business was the easy part however, growing your own business where it gets difficult. You have to show up for your business and yourself every single day or you won’t see the success you expect. I support our clients solely right now, but my goal is for Pura Vida Virtual Solutions to be a full service agency and expand our services offered by bringing on virtual assistants, social media managers, bookkeepers, and more to further support additional industries.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently left Florida to live and work remotely in Costa Rica, but I encourage you to book a trip to explore Costa Rica! It truly is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. I live in Playas Del Coco, Guanacaste and there is so much to see and do around this area. There are numerous waterfalls within driving distance like Rio Celeste, La Leona, and Llanos de Cortes or you can visit the numerous parks around that offer the best zip lining views! Guanacaste has amazing Pacific beaches like Tamarindo and Playa Negra, great for surfing, or Playa Ocotal or Playa Conchal for a more relaxed vibe. Reach out to me on Instagram if you have any specific questions about my move or what to see and do in Costa Rica!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so blessed to have family and friends that are amazing but I’ve worked with so many people who I could credit for how I work and function today both leaders and colleagues, that list is long. People who truly invested their time because they saw more in me, even though I couldn’t always see it myself.
The most influential, which he hates when I refer to him as my mentor, is my friend Todd. We worked together for most of my tenure at Edible Arrangements and he witnessed me mature both professionally and personally over the past 10 years. You need someone in your life who challenges you and he would push me to be the best version of myself.
