We had the good fortune of connecting with Cailey Stephens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cailey, how do you think about risk?
Being a risk tasker takes a significant amount of courage and bravery that most people cannot face. I find it intriguing to pursue passions that have potentially good or bad outcomes. You’ll never know what can happen in your life happen if you think about the negatives, overthink or worry. I’m guilty of worrying a WHOLE lot; however, whenever I take a risk, I plan it out it and pray on it. Being a risk-taker has played such a positive impact on my life/career thus far. I think it’s the millennial mindset mixed with my zodiac sign of being a confident Aries that encourages my risk-taking motives. One of the most significant risks I took was quitting my first career at Enterprise-Rent-A-Car to commit to my fitness business fully. Had I not believed in myself and took that leap of faith, I’d probably be miserable and mentally beating myself up. My business has grown tremendously in the last four years. I’ve grown to learn so much about my character. I am learning how to get better over time while owning a business and overcoming the fear of failure. I feel that you’ll never achieve your dreams if you don’t take risks due to fear. Fear is the ultimate roadblock to success, and lessons that arrive along the way may lead you to a new path. Taking risks makes a person stand out with a great deal of confidence.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a certified personal trainer, I currently own a fitness business where I offer all sorts of training services to individuals looking to live a healthier lifestyle. In addition to my services, I provide percussive therapy to help relieve the body’s tension and massage different muscle groups by using a Theragun. I am most proud of launching fitness equipment, specifically resistance bands, during the pandemic to help people who struggle to maintain effective workouts. I can honestly say my passion and the urge to learn more have gotten me thus far in my business because I want to get better. It was not an easy journey because while running a successful business, I started teaching full-time as a 6th-grade science teacher in 2018. My days were super draining because I trained clients in the early mornings at 5 am, taught throughout the weekday from 9 am to 4 pm, and finished training during the evenings ending my days at 8 pm. My clients and I would think, “I don’t know how she does it”, but through God’s strength, I did. I overcame the challenges by practicing prayer and meditation almost every day, balancing and prioritizing, discipline, and sacrificing because I know my end goal. A few lessons I will always keep in mind is that you have to look out for yourself at the end of the day and be smart and strategic with how you progress forward. Also, be prepared for sudden changes that you may not see coming. Lastly, when you’re a true believer of the Lord and worship him, understand that he will always have your back. You have to trust him and have faith. I want the world to know that I am just like anyone else with a passion and purpose and will persevere for what I desire. My brand is still burgeoning; however, before I reach 30 years old, I will have a fully equipped gym facility of my own.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend of mine were visiting South Florida, the best places to show them a great time would be South Beach, Wynwood, a fun nightclub, and of course, ending the week with Sunday Brunch. We’d do a little beach day during the week, take pictures, and eat some delicious foods on the strip. Next, we would have to make our way to muscle beach to get a bomb workout in! We’d hang out in Mid-town and visit places for a lit vibe like Victory Lounge or something a little more chill like Lime. Lastly, brunch is my favorite thing to do, and we’d have to go to TAP 42, Copper Blues, or Victory Lounge once again to enjoy great food and mimosas!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout and warm thank you to all of the fitness coaches and trainers who I’ve met and worked alongside throughout my fitness business journey. I truly was a novice and needed experience with learning how to train clients and run a successful business! Super grateful for those individuals for providing me with the opportunity to train, grow at their facilities and act as mentors I can go to for guidance.
