We had the good fortune of connecting with CAL. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CAL., what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The best way to describe my success is prioritizing artists needs.
Being of service and providing easy to understand solutions to their struggles has helped me gain so much recognition and acknowledgement.
My reach out campaigns has been succeful not only because of providing tips and suggestions but because of my continual support. Relationships in this industry goes a long way as long as you cater to your targeted audience.
I’m an artist myself so I know what we crave and desire and its to be appreciated, understood and complimented for our work.
You dont ever want to come off salesy or with an ulterior motive and you most definitely have to be a fan of the person your reaching out to otherwise they know your looking for something else.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always say this, Im an artist first. My marketing began with understand our needs and struggles and desires to obtain recognition for our work.
If I can uplift one artist a day I am extrememly happy. Talent is not easy to come by and the one thing I noticed with artists is were very quick to self critique and pause our gifts because of lack of support.
Not being seen enough is the culprit, so I uplift and uplift until artists get so comfortable with themselves that they start to shine through and not overthink about how someone might feel about them.
Being their true self will allow others to become true fans and relate to them and thats my main job.
Rejection isnt easy I had my fair share of it, reaching out and not getting a response would normally make a person not do it again but what makes me different is i’ll continue to support until theres no other choice but to notice the appreciation. Once thats established, relationship building is the key.
I say my reason for success is my networking ability and getting people together to work together rather than alone, that contributes to most of my success.
In 2019, I started my company Calinclined.com and there I provide services for artists to pick and choose campaigns that will help them get seen and heard professionally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In NYC theres plenty to see and do, I actually keep in my notes locations of places to visit for this exact reason.
If its not for my wife and myself, I share it with others coming to town.
230 fifth
Rooftop by Empire State Building Is a great time You get views of NYC, good food and drinks.
If you love pasta you can not come to new york and not go to Emilio Ballatos, all the celebrities go here when they visit and their wall is filled with pictures of celebrities.
If I had to plan a day of fun I’d definitely fill the day with too much to do which i often do. My first go to is to find an attraction or event I truly enjoy an adventure whether its a pop up event or games.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything I do professionally in the music industry is because of Mickey Shiloh, Ceo of Hrdrv Record Label.
Everything I do, I normally would only do for myself. Her mentorship and guidance most definetly changed my persepctive into realizing someone else might benefit from my talents.
Us artists always struggle between being creative and how to monetize our gifts, She definitely helped me differentiate between the two so I have to always give thanks to where its due.
