Meet Cameron Stapleton | Licensed Real Estate Agent & Mortgage Broker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Stapleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cameron, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
For many people, but especially those who have their own business or work for themselves, there comes a point where you have to evaluate your career to see if you’re actually finding the success you are aiming for. In those times when I felt like I was continuously falling short of my goals, it was really hard to persevere. Although being in this business had been a dream of mine forever, there was a point that I put it on the back burner while I took a 9-5 office job which was short-lived. I was frustrated by the lack of organization and time I felt was wasted and knew this was not for me. I turned those frustrations into motivation to really build my own business and manage my own time in the field I love, real estate and mortgages. I realized that before taking the job, I was disorganized and wasn’t taking the steps I needed to take to actually make a career out of my passion. With newfound motivation, I spent my free time planning out the steps I needed to take to build my business and took the leap. I quit my job and started back on my real estate and mortgage journey. This time, with a plan set up to do all the steps needed to succeed.
Since then, my business only continues to grow because I’m doing as much as I possibly can to be successful. I think if you get to that point of having to decide whether to keep going or to give up, you need to ask yourself if you are truly putting in the work that is required for you to find success. If you’re putting 110% into something and not seeing results, maybe it’s not your niche and you need to pivot your goals. If you’re like me though and not putting in the work that’s needed, take some time to get yourself organized and make a plan. Start with small goals and meet them, then make bigger ones. Soon, you’ll start to see changes and the answer will be clear: keep going!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Everything that I was able to accomplish came from discipline and putting in the time that others don’t want to do. As a Division1 football player, every minute of my day was scheduled. This is by design, so teams can get the most out of their players and ensure there’s not a single aspect of the game that is being neglected. Once my football days were over, I went from a regimented schedule that someone else held me accountable for, to having the freedom to create my own self-enforced schedule. With the excitement of finally having free-time, I began to struggle with accomplishing productive tasks. Aspects of my life that I needed to prioritize were pushed to the side, telling myself I would work on it later. Soon I felt like I was falling behind and was overwhelmed by my to-do list. My career, my connections, and my personal self-care started to suffer. It wasn’t until I took a step back and started to reflect on when I was most productive and successful in my life: playing football. Thinking back to the strict schedule that was expected of me, I realized I needed to treat my career and my personal life with the same structure as a Division1 football program. Just as in football, I sat down and created a daily schedule for myself that allowed the time for me to ensure that I was doing everything possible to achieve my goals.
The hard part though is actually sticking to it. In the beginning, it was sometimes tough to follow my strict schedule, but I started to find more motivation when the time I was putting into my work and myself actually started to pay off. Time spent simply trying to make connections soon became time working and meeting with clients, running open houses, doing showings, and representing my companies at top events. Personally, I started prioritizing movement in my life and being more conscious about my food choices. These everyday choices to do the right thing for my health not only helped me lose about 70 pounds, but also elevated my mental space where I felt more motivated to keep going in all areas of my life. Balance in your life has to come from taking action towards the things that are most important to you. We all have 24 hours in a day. Divide that time into smaller blocks where you can fully focus on a specific goal without distractions, and you’re going to start to see that there is time for everything important to you.
