We had the good fortune of connecting with Camilo Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camilo, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I have had to make has been to leave my comfort zone in my country, and come to a country (United States) where competition in the music market is high worldwide, and be aware that in order to live of music, you must be 100% committed in order to get positive results.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician who wants to learn and experiment every day. New music always comes out every day, and you can’t just stay in life with what you learned yesterday. I have been very grateful for belonging to great musical projects within Colombia and now being a representative of my country in the United States with artists of international level. Every day there are obstacles, the key is to see them as part of learning and overcome them. Each musician has his own story to tell, has his own way and his own adventures. I want people to be encouraged to take their own risks as I did when I left Colombia. It is not easy to start from scratch, but if you work for your dreams and it materializes every day, then you must say that everything has been worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami, FL is a multicultural city throughout. Places, food, art … In a week you can see many places, but to go eat I would like to go with my friend to places where art is always present. In Wynwood you can find many things you should know about Miami. Wynwood is one of my favorite places to spend a good day eating, drinking some beers and listening to good music. The night visit of the city of Miami is something that cannot be missed; At night the tall buildings with many lights, and mixed with the view of the palm trees, it is something very pleasant for our eyes. Finally, we must go to so many beautiful beaches that we have very close to home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think it is very important to have the support of the family, and to be grateful to the people who have supported you in your career. The support of my wife has been very important in making excellent decisions. It is always good to share projects and visions with the person you live with every day.
