We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Posner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small town right outside of Philadelphia. My upbringing was a little bit different than the average child. I spent a few years of my life away from home in residential facilities and group homes. My teenage life was managed by counselors and treatment advisors. From living the life that I once did it has made me grateful for the life that I have today. It has pushed me to never give up on my dreams and that I can accomplish anything. During that time in my life, my main source of therapy was art. I was constantly drawing to keep my mind at ease. Art saved my life when I was younger and was a constant reassurance of happiness. Those feelings is what pursued me to become a professional artist. My past has built me into the strong and successful woman I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artwork has become a self-reflecting form of meditation for me. It is a journey through my mind and spirit to help me form a healthy and loving acceptance of myself. As a result, my work has encouraged other women to form a deeper meaning of themselves and stimulate self-love. It is exciting that through my process and exploration I can reach out to other women and make them feel alive and free. I am not just creating bold, happy women, but I am creating everlasting feelings with people who see my art. It hasn’t been a hard road to get where I am at professionally. I took a leap of faith a couple years ago to focus on my painting full time and as soon as I did magic started to happen. People in my city started seeing my art, appreciating it, and asking for more of it, I learned that with hard work, confidence, and passion anything can happen. There are a lot of artists out in the world, but I am the only one that has my story and vision. I wish for people to be empowered and inspired by that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in St. Petersburg there are endless amazing things to do and see. The first thing I do when someone is visiting is give them a personalized mural tour downtown. The two main streets are 1st Ave and Central. Here you’ll see hundreds of beautifully designed, colorful, cool pieces of art made by lots of local, national and international artists. Being an artist, I am constantly in awe and inspired seeing others work. This is also what makes the city feel so alive and different from others. Next, I would rent scooters and hop around to a bunch of cool bars. Some of my favorites include: No Vacancy, The Saint, Saigon Blonde and Dog Bar. All of these have different themes, cocktails, and ambiances. Another must go to place to check out would have to be The Pier. There is a lot of open space to walk around the water, go to the beach, chill, hangout, and have a good time in the middle of the city. There are tons of exciting things to check out, events are happening all the time. Too many wonderful places to eat. It’s really fun being here, not having an itinerary and just exploring.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story wouldn’t be as successful if it wasn’t for the amazing mother I have. She has been my number one supporter my entire life. She is always rooting for me, encouraging me, and loving me in all that I do. Being the eccentric, spontaneous, and creative person I am her job isn’t easy. I am thankful for her guidance and acceptance always.
