We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly Testa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance comes from knowing what my priorities are and the order of importance of each one. I feel like I do a good job of being present in whatever I’m doing in that moment, whether it’s work, family or being social. Giving my full attention to something keeps me focused, grounded and allows me to enjoy what I’m currently doing. I also believe in the motto, “work hard, play hard” because in those times of relaxation, travel etc. is where creativity and ideas will come if you allow space for it. Finding balance in every day life takes conscious effort but it’s critical for our overall wellbeing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a Physical Therapist since 2006 and I’ve been working in South Florida for the past 12 years in Outpatient Orthopedics. I left my corporate job to start my own concierge practice because I love what I do, but I wanted to continue to do it on my terms. I offer 1:1 physical therapy or post-workout recovery services that includes massage, joint mobilization, stretching, cupping and dry needling. I provide tailored treatments for my client’s individual needs and I take a holistic approach of treating the whole body rather than just the injured body part. My experience, expertise and intuitive care are what make me a skilled therapist. After many years of practice, I came to see the correlation between people’s stress levels and their physical pain. Healing is a journey that requires physical and emotional work from the inside out. My joy comes from helping people through that process, educating and supporting them along the way. I feel excited to do my job every day because it truly doesn’t feel like work to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start our day with a walk on the beach followed by lunch on the water at Lido at the Standard Hotel. We could relax by the pool then treat ourselves to afternoon spa treatments at the Standard. After refreshing at the spa we could head over to Joia Beach for outdoor dinner and drinks.

The next day we would take a pilates class at Align Pilates in the Grove. Afterwards we could walk around the farmer’s market and shops. Lastly, grab lunch or dinner at Bombay Darbar for the best Indian food.

I would take her to Mandolin Aegean Bistro for a casual lunch and to explore the Miami Design District after. Then on to Dante’s HiFi for cocktails and music in Wynwood that evening.

We would enjoy a brunch at Threefold Cafe in the Coral Gables. We could find a local outdoor festival or art show to walk around then relax at Cebada rooftop for a late lunch and a glass of wine. We would probably wind down with a candlelight yoga class at Bodhi Yoga.

We would wrap up the week with two nights in Islamorada for a quick, relaxing getaway. The Keys are so special and a great place to experience quintessential Florida living.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my colleagues from Pinecrest Physical Therapy where I worked for ten years. Working along side of them inspired me to be the best therapist possible and provide excellent care. They set the standard in the industry and I am the physical therapist I am today because I learned from the best in the business.
A special thank you to my client Ed, who plant the seed for me to start my own business. Thank you for delivering that idea so confidently that it sparked me.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my long-term clients for their continued love and support. Thank you for trusting and allowing me to take care your body. It is truly my pleasure.
Lastly, I want to thank my two boys who are my biggest champions. I hope that my dedication, hard work, and love of health and wellness inspires them to find their own passions.
