We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Kobsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
we are germans living our American dream. For me it’s still not easy to express my emotions in English.

I hope you understand what i wanted to explain to you.

I think it should be an impetus to show people that it is worth daring to go new ways. we were accompanied by a german TV Show team on our emigration. After it was broadcast on TV, a lot of people wrote to us that it has been a dream of them for a long time, but that they didn’t have the courage to do it. many are afraid of losing everything. but for us it was always a win. I think you can’t fail because every decision, every act is a gain. Fear holds us back. Courage sets us free. It takes a lot of courage to become self-employed in another country. but it was clear to us that this is our way. the only thing we could have lost is money. Money is important to become self-employed, but putting everything on one card and daring to step into a new life was more important to us. We never had the fear of losing everything. we knew from the start that we would be successful. I want to encourage. I want to show that it is important to trust yourself to go other ways. I want to show that it was the best decision in my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We have an ice cream truck. We’re doing the famous ice cream rolls. Fresh made ice cream from the cold plate. Every single cup of ice cream rolls are handmade. It’s very unique. We only use fresh organic fruits and high quality ingredients. The ice cream base is homemade too. Only milk, heavy, cream and real vanilla. We didn’t use premix or powder.

We are preparing the ice cream rolls fresh in front of the customer‘s. And it’s amazing for them to watch. many do not know it and ask what is it? What’s an ice roll? then when they try it, they say oh my god that’s good. That’s amazing, the best ice cream they ever had. that’s the best thing about our job when you get so much praise. people love what we make with our own hands.

We married 2014 in Miami Beach and we fell in love with Florida. It was clear to us there that we would live here. We are self-employed here and live where others go on vacation. in Paradise. To us it doesn’t feel like working. We are living our dream.

To start the business it wasn’t easy for me. English isn’t my native language. I did everything by myself. Each license and permit i applied for by myself.
Sometimes I reached my limits, but giving up was never an option. I gave everything and got everything.

we learned a lot and paid a lot of money. our truck was too often in the workshop at the beginning. in the beginning we paid a lot more. Many ripped us off. Oh the stupid Germans don’t know what to pay anyway. total we have paid over $ 27,000 in repairs in 2 years. It took a long time to find a workshop that you could trust.

we were able live from our business from the beginning. it went fantastic. and then came COVID-19. from 100% to zero. of course a disaster for us. but we have also overcome this hurdle and have expanded our range as a result. we have restructured ourselves and gone new ways. No more festivals, instead communites. A win win situation. No more fees at food truck festivals, but excellent support from residents.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course you have to visit Miami Beach, Ocean Drive is a must seen. Miami Seaquarium
Miami Zoo
Miami Wynwood and Wynwood walls, this is amazing. You have to try Salty Donut in Wynwood.
The best pastry in Miami is le bachour in Doral. Trust me the best Croissants and Pastry i have eaten in Florida. I’m a Professional chef and pastry chef and this place is amazing, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
Miami Beach spring brake, this is amazing, we didn’t have something like that in Germany
Everglades, this is so amazing, we love this beautiful nature.
Key West, you have to drive with the car to Key West. This road is worth it to drive. The islands and the bridges.
And we love the people here, they’re all so friendly and helpful .
We love it up north. Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, it’s a calm area and really beautiful.
The beaches are beautiful too, and not to much people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband. I might not have dared without him. He strengthened my back.

my parents. they raised me to be very independent and self-confident. They set an example for me that you can achieve anything in life if you want to
