We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol & Gary Rosenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carol & Gary, how does your business help the community?
As book packagers with many years of traditional publishing experience, we help aspiring authors share their message—to uplift, inspire, entertain, instruct, and/or guide. As many people are taking publishing into their own hands, we help our clients navigate the process so that the book-reading community can be enriched by their words, whatever form they take. We’ve assisted authors in our immediate community, around the country, and even on different continents realize their dream of holding their book in their hands and being able to share their message with others. Words are powerful; sharing them this way is an incredible legacy and gift to readers.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Book Couple is a boutique book-packaging company where we work directly with writers and established authors on their books for independent publishing, Local clients are always welcome to visit our home office and “pull up a chair.” Out-of-towners are welcome, too, and we’ve had quite a few of those! We love meeting the people we work with in person. We take pride in the effort that goes into each and every book that crosses our computers. Because we both have traditional publishing backgrounds, our clients can be assured that the book they put out into the world is professionally packaged by two people who find the process thrilling, no matter how many books we’ve helped birth. Our work comes naturally to us, and The Book Couple grew organically over the years as we each worked in separate aspects of book publishing (Carol as an editor and managing editor, and Gary as a typesetter and book designer), which obviously complement each other. You can’t have a book without both. We love bringing books into the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We absolutely love Books & Books in Coral Gables. If there’s a book signing by one of our local authors, you can bet we’ll be there. We’ll arrive early to browse through the books (and purchase a few for our home library), have a bite to eat at the cafe, perhaps grab a glass of wine at the outdoor bar, and head in for the reading. We’ll go home with an autographed book, too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first traditional publisher we worked for, Rudy Shur of Avery Publishing (now Publisher of SquareOne Publishers), mentored us both and taught us the ins-and-outs of good editorial and book production work. We wouldn’t be where we are if not for his guidance, knowledge support, and continued friendship. Moreover, former publisher of Basic Health Publications, Norman Goldfind, gave us the opportunity to develop our full-service book-packaging skills from the comfort of our home office. And, of course, we wouldn’t be where we are without the many wonderful authors we’ve worked with over the course of our publishing career.
