Meet Carolina Bernal | Artist and art instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Bernal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by God. My set of convictions as well as faith is very strong and an inspiration to me. Also, nature, inspires me in many ways as nature is all around us and is very inspirational. It can inspire a song, a poem, an art piece. Lastly, I am inspired by the supernatural, by that abnormal sense that art can convey, which can seem unreal but yet very interesting to gaze upon. A magical scenery or an unnatural flower … So inspirational for me to come out with something new

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It is never easy to be an artist and an instructor at the same time. There are many challenges along the way, such as lack of resources or not having the means to expand yourself. It all started as a thought, an idea, and a passion for art. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved art. My elementary school teachers found early I have quite some skills and creativity in art and good with my fine motor skills (despite being left handed, which that in itself can also be a challenge when doing certain skills *laughs*). As I grew older, my passion for art led me to not only just keep it to myself but also teach what I know. The road of becoming has its own challenges, including lack of resources and learned lessons (such as always asking for help when needed) this challenges have catapulted for me to become a better instructor and a better artist. It has even made me a better person and stronger in my faith as well. One of the things I have learned is that every thing has a solution and problems are only temporary, soon you will find the light at the end of the tunnel and success happens. However, one must persevere. This is the very story that must be shared.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will take them out wherever they want to, depending if they want an outdoors trip (a park or the beach)
Or indoors
(A cool museum or the mall.)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank all of those that have supported me in my journey. First, God, as he is my source of encouragement and all things possible. Then my family, my friends who have always supported me, and finally, my wonderful boyfriend who believes in me and supports me in every step of the way.
