Meet CASA CARLA | Furniture Artist and Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with CASA CARLA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CASA CARLA, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Freedom to create and being able to experience my own growth as an artist. I am an Engineer because back when I had to choose a career path I had no idea what I wanted to study (who has at 15?) and some of my cousins were engineers so that’s what I chose but after experiencing the engineering world I knew I needed something more creative to go to work every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always loved old stuff, I guess from coming from an island “lost in time” per say where furniture used to last for at least 3 generations and I got my grandmother’s wedding bedroom set as my bedroom furniture (gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but old). So I was always changing that furniture around and redesigning my room with THE SAME PIECES, just changing colors and floor plan
I guess that’s how my passion of changing spaces came to life.
The minute I enter a space, any space for that matter, I am instantly thinking of ways to make it better somehow by changing this or that. Either the color of the walls, furniture or even tearing down walls and completely transforming it. It’s like my mind is an interior designer app.
So for me it’s awesome to get to transform good old pieces so they have a new life and can last forever like a piece of art not just an old piece of furniture. I believe every space should have at least one piece that is hand made, hand painted, refurbished from old to new with an artist “touch”, otherwise you can technically recreate any decorated space with store bought items, right?
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always had people by my side supporting my every crazy idea. My family and friends deserve all the credit and I am very blessed for the people around me.
