We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassidy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
So there actually wasn’t much thought. It kind of happened by accident. I had braces for a few years and when I finally got them removed I wanted to whiten my teeth, the only problem was I couldn’t find a salon that offered it and the dentist was too expensive (about $500 for one session) After months of searching I came across a teeth whitening business in my area and when I got there I thought to myself “should I do teeth whitening?” It was right in the middle of Covid so wasn’t working anyway and it didn’t seem very popular compared to the other beauty services. I did my research and decided to go for it and was trained and certified by DaVinci Teeth Whitening, a Colorado based company (the best in the business) and 3 years later here we are.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a teeth whitening technician a lot of people get confused thinking I’m a dentist, that’s not the case. I specialize solely in teeth whitening and I love that. I feel that sometimes business owners get so caught up with offering a plethora of services that they end up not being able to focus and master one. I want my clients to be comfortable in my chair knowing that I’ve done all the training/research on the service I provide. I’ve met tons of clients who don’t show their teeth when they smile, or they’ll cover their mouths when they laugh and they’ll tell me they’re self-conscious about their teeth but the minute I hand them a mirror at the end of their appointment all of that changes. Now they can’t stop smiling and for me it’s a rewarding feeling knowing that I helped them gain their confidence back. I am so proud of taking an idea and bringing it to life, turning it into something people look forward to booking and are interested in. How I was able to grow from literally $65 sessions will always be amazing to me. Getting here wasn’t easy but it wasn’t necessarily hard. The key is to not to put a lot of pressure on myself and to not compare. Like I said earlier starting this was kind of by accident so I really go with the flow because to stress myself out or force something doesn’t work for me and in this generation there’s a lot of comparing and suddenly there’s pressure to do more and you’re a failure if you don’t. Early on I decided to focus on my business only and my own goals. That works for me. Also, being positive. Try to look at the bright side of each situation because things WILL get thrown your way no matter what.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop: Swan in the design district in Miami. One of my favorites! Then Kith for some ice cream dessert. Miami has tons of cool spots so you can probably stop at Bayside marketplace or Wynwood too – the ambience there makes it a laid back, relaxing day. In West Palm for brunch you have to go to RH at The Square no questions asked. It’s a rooftop restaurant so there’s a pretty view downtown as well. South Florida is known for the water so it’s only right you have dinner at one of the best waterfront restaurants in Jupiter, U-Tiki! These are definitely my go-tos when I have someone in town. It’s always a good time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course, I’d love to shout-out my closest family members. Since the very beginning they’ve been supportive and pushed me to pursue any idea I came up with. Even let me practice on them to perfect my skills. Sometimes it takes just one person to give you the little push you didn’t know you needed and I’m so lucky to have more then one. With their support I’ve been able to grow my business and add to the team.
