We had the good fortune of connecting with Cecilia Pazmino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cecilia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that in order to succeed you must take risks! That is the only way to keep moving forward. My father told me “if you don’t jump into the water you will never cross the river”. He said this to me when I was thinking about opening my business and leaving my 10 year job but I wasn’t sure. This gave me the push, it was a big risk because what if the businesses didn’t go as planned. As a single mother of 6 year old twin boys, I had to make this work in order to provide for my family. I’m so grateful I made this decision, otherwise I would have stay making very little money, with a complicated schedule and missing a lot of my kids important days!
Now I make my own schedule, I’m able to drop off and pick up my kids from school, be there for them in every event, having freedom and making more money without a boss!
Having my own business allows me to give more quality time to my clients in each service, also use better quality products! It’s more personalized and are not treated like another number like it was in the job I had before. Overall taking a big risk improved my personal life and career!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a salon-spa. Precious Skin was created during pandemic where everything closed down and the beauty industry was one of the most affected ones. For this, I was already getting prepared to open my own business and I was taking many classes for a whole year about skin care, all kind of facials, chemical peelings, etc. Also body contouring was something I really was interested in learning and I did (all techniques). My biggest strength was waxing, I worked 10 years for a big famous nationwide waxing place, I was a top Waxer and became the peer trainer at my location, so I decided to put all these together and offer many options of services to my clients in one place! So when I got furloughed from work I realized that you can simply lose a job whenever, no matter how good you are. Immediately I started to get everything together looked for the place and making my spa! I designed it and decorated myself, it was very hard I maxed out my credit cards but was no other way around. They finally brought me back to work 3 months later but I only stayed a few more months because now I was decided to go on my own and getting everything ready. When I had all ready to go I resigned my job and started a new life! My mother is also an aesthetician so this has give us the opportunity to work together and run a family business who cares about each of our clients who become friends because I get to see them every month and know each other stories so it’s not like just come for a service and leave, its a lot more than that!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would go to the beach a lot specially if is someone who comes from a place where they don’t have one close by. We will visit Mizner park, there’s a few great places to go eat and drink there. I’m sure we would need to go shopping so we will go to Boca Town Center to find some nice clothes. Also we will visit Miami, Fort Lauderdale. And a restaurant that we would definitely go will be Texas de Brazil!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Love and support from my family, mentorship from my trainers who taught me all I know now. And my clients who trusted me and support my business every day!
