We had the good fortune of connecting with charlotte surand and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi charlotte, why did you pursue a creative career?
As the daughter of a contractor, I witnessed the transformative power of design from an early age. Combining my innate passion for aesthetics with my upbringing, pursuing an artistic career as an interior designer became a natural choice to channel my creativity into shaping inspiring and functional spaces.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an interior designer, what sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to creating spaces that seamlessly blend functionality, aesthetics, and personal narratives. I take immense pride in my ability to listen deeply to my clients’ desires and translate them into unique designs that exceed expectations. I am excited about the opportunity to bring joy, inspiration, and a touch of magic to people’s lives through my creative work. The road have not been easy as many doors were closed right after I graduated from interior design school in France. I kept believing in my dreams and work very hard in every interior design companies I worked for to get to where I am and get the recognition from my clients. I want to highlight the perseverance it took to get where I am today. I have fought against obstacles and overcome challenges to pursue my passion for design. My brand represents resilience, creativity, and the ability to transform spaces into captivating works of art. I strive to create meaningful experiences and leave a lasting impact through my designs, making the world a more beautiful and inspiring place.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a week-long trip to Miami area, here’s a suggested itinerary to show my best friend a memorable time:
Start with a visit to the vibrant neighborhood of Wynwood. Explore the colorful street art, visit art galleries, and have lunch in Upper buena Vista.
Spend the afternoon at South Beach, enjoying the sun, sand, and iconic Art Deco architecture. Grab dinner at the Watr at the 1 hotel.
In the next morning take a day trip to the Florida Keys. Drive down to Key Largo and go snorkeling or diving in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
Enjoy a seafood dinner in Key West at Latitude, best for its lively atmosphere and stunning sunsets.
The following day head to the beautiful beaches of Key Biscayne for a day of relaxation and water activities like kayaking or paddleboarding. Grab lunch at the ritz cartlon at Dune.
Have a relaxing dinner in the charming town of Coconut Grove,
The foloowing day hop on a boat for a long day trip around the islands and go up north to a sand bar, enjoy the sun and the cocktails meanwhile overviewing some dolphins dancing in the water.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The mentorship provided by my father has had a profound impact not only on me but also on inspiring women designers like Zaha Hadid and Kelly Wrestler. Their remarkable achievements and fearless pursuit of their dreams have served as powerful motivation. Their stories of breaking boundaries and creating groundbreaking designs have pushed me to venture beyond my country’s borders. Moving from France to the United States, I am determined to embrace new opportunities, challenge myself, and contribute to the world of design, inspired by the trailblazing examples set by these remarkable women and the guidance of my family support.
