We had the good fortune of connecting with Charrisse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charrisse, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from the Bronx, New York. My background growing up in the Bronx has shaped me into the woman I am today. I truly believe this because without the background of growing up in the South Bronx, I don’t think I would have the drive and ambition I have today. It is not easy growing up in the Bronx but I made it happen by graduating high school, college and getting an MBA and have made a career doing the things I love. It’s all about the outcome honey. I believe you can take your obstacles and turn them into something greater that will help and benefit others. If you have the right mindset anything is possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I am a petite, type 4 natural hair content creator who recently embarked on my natural hair journey and loving every moment of it! From trying new products, to trying new hairstyles I’m going to make sure you know that rocking your natural hair is amazing and you can look good in any setting. Natural hair is not occasion specific, dress it up, down, for the office, attending a wedding, or just a chill night out. I meet you at the intersection of fashion and natural hair. On my social media you can find fashion Friday posts, hairstyles that include flowers, soda cans and claw clips, as well as product review, styling and wash day videos.

I embarked on my natural hair journey on December 31, 2020! This was the best decision I have made for my hair. It is an amazing experience and I am loving every single moment of it. By day, I am an Executive at a non-profit organization and I am rocking my natural hair in the office honey!

It was pretty easy for me to show up to the office with my natural hair. It was mid-pandemic when I big chopped so coming back to the office was a breeze. Everyone looked a bit different so it wasn’t bad at all. Many people complimented me on my hair so that was another plus. I am happy that it wasn’t uncomfortable as I know it can be for many. But, don’t get me wrong people were doing double takes but overall they were receptive to my natural coils.

The lesson I’ve learned is embrace your natural beauty and don’t let anyone, any job, or anything steer you away from it. And remember, natural hair goes with any outfit honey!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Oh honey, if me and my best friend are in town we are going to have a time! NYC is the city that never sleeps! If you know, you know! So let’s get into our itinerary. We are going to shop, that is for sure. We will shop from fifth avenue to Fordham road. This itinerary is in no particular order so here we go! – Walk around and take photos in Central Park, maybe get on a horse and carriage because we are extra. Check out a movie at South Street Seaport, a concert at Hudson Yards, take photos with the Brooklyn Bridge as our backdrop, go to Magnolia Bakery for the best banana pudding ever! Get a NY slice of pizza, some Spanish food and Jamaican food from the block! Probably hit a few Michelin star restaurants because why not. Hit up a bar in Williamsburg on a rooftop, pool at The Beach at Dream Downtown and finish it off with Hotel Sojo – overlooking the NYC skyline by having a spa day ending with dinner on a yacht. Now that is an eventful week in the city!

PS it’s so many things to do in NY you will not be bored.
