We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Nuñez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
An important factor behind my success is connecting with people. The people around you and how you and say a client can relate can not only make the relationship stronger, but the trust within it. Trust is something I always strive for, no matter if I am doing makeup related work, script writing work with a client or even in every day life. Along with trust, is that communication. Making sure everyone and everything is okay around me because if you have a good sense of your surroundings, your work will show through as clean and professional as you made it seem.
I owe everything to the clients and friends I made and I again, think trust came with it. They trust that I am consistent, cautious and always keeping that clean line of communication that allows THEM to collaborate and make them feel involved. On film sets, I don’t just take off – I have to ask my director what she/he wants and their vision or with writing clients, sending them updates, asking them questions to pick their mind and to see what they’re thinking. It’s all about communication and trust that I’ve build my brand on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a young makeup artist and just an overall artist of many trades, getting to where I was – was not easy one bit. I remember those late nights in ‘green room’ when the ‘green room’ was a corner in a small shack and a just some LED lights with eight extras and four main talent and ME being the only makeup artist. Those, those were challenging times – but I knew I needed that experience, I needed the bad, the terrible and of course the good to know what MY standards were when it came to being on newer, professional sets.
I’ve worked hard to be taken seriously, I over did it some nights and cried in the backrooms saying how exhausted I was but I loved it and the reason I kept pushing? My actors. My actors are some of the most unique people I have ever met and I wanted to finish and pull through, for them. I owe a lot to the actors who trusted me and encouraged me too. Because of the people I met, I got to go on one of the most professional sets in Atlanta that was directed by a great friend of me, all because SHE believed in me to bring her vision to life. That, was a moment I would never forget, to know I am being recognized and taken seriously because I know I worked hard for it. From a small shack, to abandon houses to a professional set. I am proud of myself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, easy! During the pandemic, work in the industry has been difficult to find so I found myself working in the theme parks. Easy, we get my discount on hotels! Take them and me to the parks for FREE and just go bowling, mini golfing and of course, I love this restaurant called Izziban, a Korean BBQ place that’s legit only five minutes away from my apartment!
I would love to take them to our local museums and take photos at the lake that near where I live and of course, some movies in with fancy a charcuterie board, made by me of course! Do some cute makeup and get some drinks by the bar in Disney Springs. I love going around there, especially with the colder weather rolling in. There is just so much to do in the city of Orlando, I would want to do everything!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be who I am today without my partner in crime, James Smith. He has driven me across state lines for films, would have follow me to LA when I applied to a writing scholarship and was there when I was panicking in the green rooms looking for missing items and came and delivered whatever I needed. He’s my rock, someone I know I couldn’t do this without. Him, himself is a fantastic writer and I’ve always came to HIM for advice and guidance, to say he has been my moral compass is an understatement. Thank you, my love.
