Meet Chris Denny | Musician and Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Denny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
When it comes to music, most people think it’s all fun and games (which it can be at times!) But what most people fail to see are the hours upon hours put into the work that it takes to actually get your music off the ground. The years of practice, the energy you put into the creative process and so on. Also, it’s scary putting yourself and your emotions in front of others for them to hear because regardless of how good your art is, there will always be critics and sometimes that is a hard pill to shallow.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My path for music started a fairly young age, around 12 or so, when I got my first drum set. At that time I lived on a farm in east Texas in the middle fo no where so there really weren’t any options for instructors and I took it upon myself to learn how to play my copying songs from the albums I owned. I eventually did the same for guitar, piano and vocals and still yet to this day taken any lessons other than reading a few books on music theory while in college. I think with that approach to learning music, I was able to really tap into just expressing myself which ever way I saw fit instead of worrying about doing it the proper way or following the normal rules that are often taught at music schools. There was no box built around me which allowed me to have full creative freedom which really plays a role in how I write my songs.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I sort of have two cities that I call home. One being West Palm Beach, Florida where I was born and the other is Seoul, South Korea where I lived for over 10 years. For West Palm, the beach is what it’s all about here so I would show them some of my favorite hang out spots along the water. Seoul on the other hand has some of the best night life and entertainment options I’ve ever seen. I would take my friends to the rock club that I performed at often called Club FF as well as some of my favorite indie dance clubs that are scattered all over the city. There are also some really great hiking options around the city where you can catch amazing views from above the place that nearly 10 million people call home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My uncle, Rick Denny, for introducing the drums and art to me at a very young age. My grandparents and mother for always supporting my dream of making music. As for influences, The Smashing Pumpkins was a huge part of why I fell in love with music at a very young age.
