We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlito Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlito, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The music industry is rigged against independent artists. Bigger artist watch and study the upcoming artist to steal their ideas and sound from us because they can overshadow us. Video directors, producers, stylist, Jewelers, dj’s and everybody involve in the music industry want independent artist to sign major record deals that don’t usually work in their favors because the want to overcharge the artist for their services because they know the major labels have the money and will spend it because the overhead falls on the artist. The labels don’t mind because it puts the artist in debt so they will never profit in their records deals but continue to make them money.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Carlito Black is the biggest independent in Florida. He is the only rapper who has had no financial backing from any major labels or management company and no co-signs from any popular artist. Carlito Black has been a black sheep in South Florida un-embraced by the industry but has manage to climb to one of the top ranking upcoming artist of 2022. Carlito Black is proud to say he has grown his following organically and collaborated with Miami legend Ice Billion Berg, Bruno Mali, Majornine and more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is a major difference from South Beach and Miami. If you want to experience the real Miami. The city that has made Carlito Black who he is, you got to get a taste of authentic Caribbean food. We gotta pull up to Chef Creole on 54th street in little Haiti for real Haitian food. You can’t leave the city till you get some greole, rice and beans with sweet plantations. Or we gotta have “Yard mon” Jamaican food at Dutch Pot off 441 to grab a plate of oxtails. We’ll head to Survival Miami to get fresh for the Strip club. I’ll take you to the block to cop some something to roll and Tipsee off 183rd and 7th ave for some liquor, Preferable Bumbu Rum. Miami have the baddest women in the world, so get your paper right to throw that in Playhouse in Hollywood or The Office In Murda Gardens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My manager Tiffany D has been the foundation of my music career. She has guided my sound to what it is today, built my brand, and single handedly establish my name in every major rap scene in Florida.
