We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, why did you pursue a creative career?
The reason why I’ve pursued an artistic/creative career is because of my love for music. I love the process. I find joy in creating music and drawing inspiration from things around me or things that have occurred in my life. For me it’s a sense of freedom where I can focus on my craft and just freely create in a space where nothing else matters. Music to me has always been a form of expression so whether I’m rapping, producing or singing it allows me to fully express my thoughts and feelings in the form of songs. I also enjoy creating things that connect with people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an indie artist I feel what sets me apart from others is the dedication and quality of the work I put out. Whether it be me rapping, singing, producing or songwriting, I always felt like I apply all my talents into creating timeless music.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come from where I began and how bright the future is ahead. Now that I’m older and well versed with how the music business operates, I feel I can just really enjoy getting back to creating my best work. I’m excited for the music I’ve been working on as of late and how each record/album displays maturity along with my growth as an artist.

I’ve been grinding as an indie artist for a very long time. I started singing when I was younger and picked up rap along the way once I was in high school. I was always in gifted and talented programs throughout middle school and HS often singing in the hallways to showcase my talents with my friends. My cousin used to be a local DJ in NYC, so he would always have me come by his house and I’d be there rapping for hours. Other cousins of mine would take me around various neighborhoods in the city where I’d rap in cyphers and battle people. I started to record and really create songs in 2007 putting out songs on MySpace, SoundCloud and winning multiple national contests. I began doing local shows which then opened up opportunities for me to perform and open up for major artists. Through networking and consistently putting out music, I’ve been able to expand and reach a broader audience with now having my music on Tv and film.

It definitely hasn’t been easy. It’s been many sleepless nights and many long days. A lot of sweat. tears and frustration where many times I frankly wanted to give up. My family keeps me grounded and my peers keep me motivated so that along with the desire to be great has always pushed me to continue working. I realized after a while that my race isn’t the same as the next persons race. Just because they’ve reached the finish line faster doesn’t mean that I won’t get to the finish line at all. So I just keep working, keep putting out quality music that connects with people and believe it’ll eventually work out in the end. Great music can’t be denied.

What I’d want the world to know about me and my journey is you can be you no matter how tempting it is to conform to what’s popular now. It’s ok to fail, it’s ok to keep trying, it’s ok to make mistakes just as long as no matter what you keep going, you learn and you grow.

I think a lot of my journey speaks to growth and being comfortable in my own skin while being unapologetic about it. With some people it can take them a lifetime to grasp that but I feel like my experiences have shaped me to being the man and the artist I am today. I used to think everything had to happen when I wanted it to happen so it would add to the frustration but now I see as long as I stay committed to the process and keep working things will happen when they’re supposed to.

I would want the world to know I’m a humble, genuine person who really has a passion for being the best person and artist I can be. I have determination and drive to be the best at my craft working tirelessly to achieve my goals. I’m not perfect but everyday I work to be better than the day before. I hope anyone who comes across my story gets inspired and motivated to keep pursuing their dreams not only in music but in life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d def take them around Miami! Let them eat some good Cuban food in Miami Beach at Havana 1957 (their Mojitos are my favorite) or hit up Nikki Beach. Hit up South Beach off Ocean Dr to soak up the atmosphere beachside. Hit up STK for their coconut rice and steaks for dinner and after either go dancing at Mangos or LIV later in the evening for a club vibe.
Heat games by the arena on Biscayne are always dope. Check out the Dolphin mall for shopping and really just cruise around downtown Miami. Orlando is cool too with the Magic games, Cuba Libre on international drive or the theme parks like Universal and Disney.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a lot of people that I would love to give a shout out to that have been apart of my journey. Too many to name individually (I always forget some names) but I’m humbly grateful to those who have supported me, gave guidance, provided help along the way and who really believe in my talent(s) as much I do.

I do want to give a special major shout out Qwiz, Fontiann, Legacy, Rich Fraz, Elliott Major, Carlos “L.O.S” Stanley, Jigz, Curtis Paul (RizeOptix), Lady Luck, Q-Tyrain, Jared X, Rob Delossantos, Joe Loftus, Brandon Maxwell ( Random), J Myles, my late cousin Edwin “Ella” Saunders, Joey Sitton, Devin Olivas, Jovan Landry, Photobombshell & My Family
