We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Koulouris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrissy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Some times in our life we all come across an opportunity that can be risky. We go into deep mediation to wonder if taking the chance would be worth the desired outcome. Some risks do fail, but I feel not taking advantage when one presents itself can be a failure within itself. The unknown of what could have been can forever hinder our thoughts of what could have happened. I have always been a risk taker and throughout my life I have taken many regarding my education, marriage, relocating, and career. Not all have led to the outcome I expected, but those that have been worth the amount of work and anxiety that comes with taking chances. Personally, I would rather see what may come than to never know at all.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am travel blogger who encourages others to travel the world from another perspective. My passion is to get others excited by stepping off the beaten path from the touristy spots when traveling. My journey as a blogger began 2 years ago and to be honest it hasn’t been the easiest and still quite challenging. The most difficult obstacle occurred last March. My travel blog made so many significant gains and nearly fell apart within days due to the pandemic. My world felt like it was crumbling and it was completely out of my control. However, I refused to let this discourage me following my dream as a blogger. Due to the circumstances it was extremely challenging and there were days I was ready to give up and throw in the towel. Thankfully, there were some small wins that kept me motivated when it was needed. From this I have been grateful for what I have learned during this trial. The unexpected has shown me that I can navigate along with any situation and learn what is being presented. So whatever life throws you continue to persevere cause you could have so many regrets wondering the outcome by giving up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always enjoy being a tour guide for my friends and family when they visit. For first timers coming to see me of course we have to visit some of most popular spots Miami is known for then some of my favorites as a local. First on the list would be heading to South Beach and visiting Ocean Drive, South of Fifth, and the Art Deco District. After it grab a bite to eat with a view at Juvia or grab a pizza at Lucali then do some shopping on Lincoln Road. Another neighborhood I enjoy showing my visitors would be Wynwood. Everyone seems excited to see all the unique wall murals. No stop to Wynwood would be complete without grabbing a donut and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte from The Salty Donut Some of my other favorite eateries to take guests in this area are Mister 01, Fireman Dereks, Wynwood Kitchen and Bar, and Love N’ Gyros. Brickell is my favorite neighborhood in Miami and some places I always take others are the Riverside Miami, The Wharf, Brickell City Centre, and Brickell Key, For places we would end up eating and grabbing a bite to drink are B Bistro + Bakery, Barsecco, Blackbird Ordinary, Pubbelly, Coyo Taco, Cantina La Veinte, Casa Tua, and Delores But You Can Call Me Lolita. For a relaxing beach day we would venture off to Key Biscayne and relax at Crandon Park then grab a bite to eat at Rusty Pelican outside to admire that stunning Miami skyline. Coconut Grove is a must-see charming neighborhood and fun to walk around. My favorite to grab a cocktail and meal is Green Street Cafe and Lokal. Last, walking Calle Ocho in Little Havana is a must when showing my friends around. Ball & Chain and Azucar are always some stops along the route.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Georgios is the owner of a European high-end style cafe, Borsalino is located in the heart of Downtown Miami. The story of this cafe exemplifies determination and boldness. Borsalino was set to open in March of 2020, but news arrived that Miami would be undergoing a lockdown due to the pandemic. Despite, the circumstances, Georgios continued to open his cafe and follow orders for delivery and pickup. Even though it presented its challenges, Georgios remained optimistic and followed his dream. Today, Borsalino has become a favorite local spot in this neighborhood and continues to grow. Expect long wait times for their fabulous weekend brunch.
