We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Wynwood Buggies started as a potential dream in 2009 but the company itself was not officially developed until 2013. Our goal was to engage directly with the people and get them to know the neighborhood of Wynwood, Miami. Back then it was much more than a tourist attraction, even with Wynwood Walls already in the game. We started giving free golf cart tours guided by locals who specialized in street art therefore slowly  creating this unique idea previously without precedent in the art world.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The business strives from the recognition of the clients and the endorsement of the artists. It has not been easy at all with many ups and downs along the 8 years road travelled so far growing and learning how to develop a better company. The challenges faced to date have been overcome with a lot of effort and perseverance. The biggest lessons were teamwork disinterestedly and the value of community. However, the most valuable lesson for the brand, and what sets us apart from others, is our constant play on our  model making it adaptable and scalable to many other cities even if the roots always originate from Wynwood. In Miami, Wynwood Buggies not only works as an independent tour company but it also strives to work as a promoter for local and international artists by trying to offer a wide variety of opportunities for people in the cultural sector.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without doubt each morning would start by enjoying a nice colada by a “ventanita” on any of the many Cuban restaurants Miami has to offer  while making new friends who teach us more about the local unique Cuban culture. Our days would be mainly based around Wynwood experiencing daily panoramic tours around the neighborhood. At least one day would be spent enjoying an official guided tour at Wynwood Walls. For meals we would enjoy Wynwood’s wide variety of restaurants, in particular KYU which never disappoints. We would finish our days at one of the many breweries in the area like Veza Sur.  A visit to Miami’s rooftops either during the day or even at night is always welcomed, like Astra in Wynwood. To leave the Wynwood area we would visit The Anderson where we can enjoy good food, great vibes, and live music. And to finalize the day with a bit of Miami variety we can always enjoy a drink at any of the many bars in Brickell.  Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The idea was created and developed by me, Christian Romero, an Argentinian guy who moved to Miami in September 2008. Although appreciating Wynwood’s unique sensitivity for the art I noticed a lack of community in the neighborhood I chose to convert  my pain into gain by creating Wynwood Buggies. But all this couldn’t be possible without the support of different friends and family such as my wife Isadora Velazquez and my broskis  Diego Fernandez and Leonardo Vega who have been instrumental in our growth and development. There is a great community of extremely talented artists who have supported us immensely and graciously included us in the process behind each wall they paint, making our tours unique and helping us deliver the most wholesome experience Wynwood has to offer. Lastly, institutions such as Mana, Wynwood Walls, and the Graffiti Museum have humbly opened many doors for us to help us empower the company. We are forever grateful to you all.
