We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Alvarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being relatable and transparent. I believe that this is the most important factor in relationships with both my clients and my staff. When I can’t figure something out, I tell them exactly that… but I give them the confidence that together we will figure it out and find the best solution. I don’t pretend to know it all or be able to do it all. Personal connections are extremely important, and being transparent is the best starting point.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Virtue Construction and Design, LLC was founded in 2014. It’s a construction company with a strong emphasis on customer service, honestly and integrity above all (hence the name “Virtue”). Being a woman in a male-dominated industry has had its challenges, but it’s not foreign to me. I actually train and compete in MMA and kickboxing, and that has taught me a lot about dedication and success. The only way to win is by putting in the work. There’s ups, downs, wins and losses, but the most important thing is how you react to those situations. You need to be able to assess, learn, tweak, and get back in there! Like in any sport though, much of the success is due largely in part to the team and coaches who have been there for the process. My team at Virtue Construction and Design is amazing. They truly care about the company and the clients. I’m good at some things, but not all things. I have to delegate to those who have more expertise in fields where I may lack knowledge or experience. That is key! If I tried to do it all by myself, I would burn out. I’m excited about growing together as a team, and being able to build beautiful things for our clients along the way! My dream has always been to own a successful business, because I want to be able to help families, provide jobs, and bless others with what God has given me. My biggest hope is to have my two sons running the business some day, and that they too will share the same values and concepts as I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So… first things, first. We need to go workout! I would take them to my gym, Freestyle Fighting Academy, where we could either do an MMA session, or a crazy fun workout with the Women’s Only Fitness Bootcamp. We won’t regret that kickass training session! After that, we could grab some lunch or dinner at El Toro Loco Churrascaría where they serve amazing food! Then, we could hit up the beach for some rays, or visit Wynwood for some cool photo opps. Then in the evening, we could check out Brickell or Little Havana. One of my favorite places to visit is Cubaocho Museum and Performing Arts Center on 8th Street. That’s where you want to go for a cultral experience with good music and drinks. Miami has a lot to offer, and there’s always something cool to explore!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would be nothing without my incredible team. Thank you to my office manager, project managers, my handymen and wonderful clients. I’m thankful for the father of my kids who has always supported me and stood by me through the good and the rough moments of being an entrepreneur, and for my children who keep me motivated to do better every single day. God has presented me with great opportunities, and I’m truly blessed to be surrounded but such wonderful people.
