We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Perez-Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I disagree with the statement “you need the right background or education to succeed.” Not all people are fortunate enough or have a desire to attend college. Especially after being in school most of their life up to the point society deems is the “time.”
I attempted school many times yet did not feel as though I was designed to withstand the typical learning system implemented by society. I am feels type of person. Kinesthetic learner if you will. Sitting in a chair all day trying to rack my brain full of information is extremely overwhelming.
I encourage anyone who feels uncomfortable in these types of structured settings to break out and apply different methods that work for them, gain wisdom in that craft or subject by application, hands on experience. Teach yourself and rise above the system.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
hmmmm. lets see… where do i start?!? lol i began my yoga practice as a way to assist my emotional & mental health needs. never ever did i imagine that the journey would lead me to this point. i was suffering from an insurmountable depression & eating disorder. God’s pull to stay on my mat and lean into his voice is how i overcame those challenges and ended up here, with you!
my brand is to create a safe container where people from all walks of life can come together, practice yoga, build community, and be seen, heard, validated, & loved.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
i mean living in SoFlo has many advantages lol. definitely the beaches. the artsy areas. the food. culture. and of course… the yoga direction studio aka “the Shala”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
this shoutout goes to all the love & support i receive from my friends & community.
