We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
All my life I’ve been a creative at heart. From a very young age, art is what made my heart happy. I know it sounds cliché but it’s true. As I got older and thought about what I wanted to do with my life, I knew it was going to be something hands on, something that would help someone else’s life, I wanted to be a person that was remembered for either teaching a child something important or creating something artistic for someone. When I graduated high school, I attended University for my Teaching degree in Elementary education. All along I photographed family and friends for free. It was something I loved so much. I worked at a school for 5 years and loved the creative part of it so much but I just wasn’t happy waking up and doing the same thing over and over again. One day I woke up and said, this is it. I’m done waking up everyday to work a “ 9-5 “ when I know I can make it doing exactly what I love. That’s when Christy Clark Photography was born. 11 + years later and I haven’t looked back. Wedding photography, the art and memories I create for my couples is the most fulfilling thing I’ve done in my whole life. The bonds I build with my couples, making nana smile during a wedding reception, the happy tears from our brides and grooms. It just sparks so much creativity within me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a wedding photographer and yes, there are so many of us out there BUT what sets me apart from other wedding photographers is that I document your day as it is. Our style is documentary and we document even the most smallest moment, the one you had no clue was happening, yup! That’s what we get, along the major important moments of your day. I’ve worked really really hard to get to where I am today. From working for free, to taking every and any photo job I can get. I even worked at a commercial portrait studio on the side to get more experience. Throughout my time doing photography I started to niche down to what made me tick. Was it easy? No way! Back when I started photography, I had no one to look up to or to ask any questions to. It was all trial and error. I’d mess up photo shoots, and had to go back out and reshoot it. I learned it all on my own. From camera settings to learning how to use natural light to posing, you name it, I learned it the hard way. The one thing I want the world to know about me and my story is that, no matter what you throw at me, I am here to learn and become a stronger person. The learning process never ends. I will always be humble enough to know that once I’ve learned one thing to where I can do it with my eyes closed, I’d be ready to learn the next. I’ve overcome a lot and worked hard to be where I am today, I am proud of me. As to my brand, we will always make sure to stand behind our word, trust the process and keep moving forward with the times. As styles change as photography evolves, so will my brand and my business motto.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Miami, Fl. If my best friend was visiting for the week, I’d definitely suggest a little adventure. Maybe experience an escape room in Broward county, some arcades at Dave & Busters. I’m not one for fancy restaurants, so I’d go to Culver’s for a yummy burger and fries or Raising canes for chicken. I’d probably also sit on the beach at night and enjoy the nice warm breeze for a while.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my family & my amazing hubby Alex. Without their support and drive to push me forward, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
