Meet Cindy Mesa: Digital Content Creator & Mommy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Mesa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have had to learn to really organize and pace myself. Between work, parenthood, creative content, and life in general, things can get extremely overwhelming. I have slowly started to implement a system that works for me and my family, we work as a team, and we know when to stop and take a breather. Some days are harder than others, but we try our best to always put our little family unit, above anything else.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I worked in higher Education for 15 years, before becoming a stay at home mom. That gave me the chance to focus on my own brand, The Yummy Geek, and create #FoodandCosplay, a sort of niche, where I combine my love of cosplay for my love of food. With Food and Cosplay, I have been able to showcase and support local restaurants, and small businesses , in a fun and creative way. It was not easy in the beginning, especially introducing it to a community that might not be familiar with the concept of Cosplay and Geek fandom, but little by little I have found that more people are getting on board and are truly enjoying what I have to offer each week. I am now also currently working for a new Artist driven platform, VOLUME, that I feel has sparked even more creativity in all that I do. I am a firm believer that surrounding yourself with other creative minds can truly bring out all the magic that you can offer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many amazing places in Miami to explore, from local food to recreational. I would start the say at Sergios restaurant for some Cafe con leche and croquetas. Fairchild Botanical Gardens, I feel, doesn’t get as much love as it deserves, it is such a beautiful open space, gorgeous views, beautiful scenery, for a fun and relaxing morning. Wynwood is always a must, the art, the food, there is so much to do, you can practically spend the whole day there. I would end the day with a stop at Sweet Melody Icecream , a growing staple in Miami that is always a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Close family and friends have really played a role in my growth and success. My husband in particular has been my rock, my balance, the one that keeps me going when I want to give up. I also have the support of my best friend and two close mommy friends , who have gotten me through so much this past year. Having people around you who motivate you, and truly believe in what you do is key in how far you can go. My daughter is also the main focus in my life, and the drive in all that I do.
