We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Salinas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claudia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was little always knew that I will have my own business. The preparation journey actually started when I was 11 years old, I remember that I used to do so many things with my hands, like candles or chocolates for example and sold them to my entire neighborhood. I always wanted to be my own boss, the one who put all the pieces together and definitely give jobs to people was one of the biggest motivations.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was little I always considered myself as an artist, I liked to dance a lot, love music or paint, those were the hobbies that I have always enjoyed. I remember when I was in school we had art and painting classes, I really enjoyed them! everything I did with my hands turned out well, so it occurred to me to start selling candles (because I learned it at one of this classes) and I realized that when I started to sell them, people started to buy them, that was one of the moments that I knew that I have to do something on my own. When you are a kid, you are definitely a dreamer and, to be honest selling 20 candles is not enough to have a decent life haha, so when I turned 16 years old I decided to study business where I learned the basic stuff, then I graduated until I had my first job in logistics (I liked it but I didn’t enjoy it). I remember that one day I began to think that I was very happy as a child doing all these things with my hands, so I prayed and asked God what I could do. That day I made alfajores because I wanted to eat them, I lived in Nashville TN and there were no alfajores, so i decided to bake them from scratch and gave them to my husband and he loved them…that was the beginning of my adventure with Alfies!
At the begging it was not easy, people didn’t know what was an alfajor so I decided to do cupcakes thinking that they will approach to me if I have a product that people can recognize and little by little they actually became my customers. A couple of years later my husband and I moved back to south Florida and guess what, Covid came… so had to pause my little dream job… just for a moment
Finally when all this Covid situation ended I rebranded Alfies and now this is the result of my brand, happy customers, people wanted to eat alfajores, my products are in different events like weddings, baby showers, parties, etc!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will take them to The Square at West Palm Beach, a very nice place to enjoy shops and restaurants, then we will go to eat to Pizza al Fresco, looove that place is so good and so pretty! This is in Palm beach, then after we ate we will go to the beach… please you are in Florida! You can miss the beach. My favorites are Delray Beach or las Olas in Fort Lauderdale. Not sure if we can do everything in one day haha but definitely we can do one thing every day! On Saturdays we will go to the farmers market! Actually this Summer season you will find me there! So you can eat my famous alfajores (Delray beach green market)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate it to my family and husband, they always believe in me.
