We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Totten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Connor, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I find risk taking to be very important to success. By taking risks creatively, your making something that’s new and commonly slightly controversial and by doing so, that’s the best way to get your name out into the world. If you play it safe all the time, no one is going to care. But if you take risks with your work, your gonna be more attention grabbing and noticeable by people. I take risks all the time with my work by using materials I’ve never used before, silhouettes I’ve never created or seen, and all of those risks have always lead me in the right direction and have even won me awards.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m very proud of the amount of work I’ve been able to create at such a young age and how established artistically I’ve been able to make myself. My brand Connor Totten is one of many tastes and techniques and is for any and everybody. Connor Totten is all about creative expression and storytelling and I’m so excited to continue telling the stories I’ve created in the future and to see how big I can create my brand. Some challenges I’ve faced have definitely just come from being a small designer. I create all of my collections from hand myself while still being in school which can become challenging time wise but that’s what makes the final products even more rewarding. I got to where I am today because of passion and drive. I’ve always had a passion for art and even the days I’ve had no motivation to do anything, there’s still something in me that pushes me to keep creating.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in St Petersburg FL currently and I find it to be a very exciting and liberating city. The vintage shopping in st pete is great, my personal favorites would be Artpool Gallery, The Foundery, and Lions Paw. The art scene is also very inspiring and often motivates me with my own work. My favorite museum would definitely have to be the Dali Museam. The city is also flooded with restaurants, my fav spot would have to be Hawkers.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to Shoutout the charity Jump for Kids and it’s founder Jeff Pope. I have worked alongside Jeff for about 7 years now and he has always encouraged me to work my hardest and create what my heart wants to create. Jeff and his charity have staged many of my shows and have taught me so much about event planning, entrepreneurship, networking, and everything else that will lead me to success once I’m graduated from high school.
