We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
What is the end goal? I want to keep pushing the goal post back so that there’s never really an END. What my end goal was 13 years ago when I started Courtney Studios is definitely NOT what I want today. I love photographing families and creating beautiful portraits, but running a high volume portrait studio is no longer on my list of priorities. Life is evolving, and my goals are always changing. Three kids does that to you. I’m currently in the middle of taking the Florida Real Estate class (isn’t that what all the cool kids do?) to work with my sister. Both of us have bachelor’s in Elementary Education. We’re both definitely no longer on that career path. Grateful for all the opportunities that have allowed me to move and transition and grow.
What should our readers know about your business?
Courtney Studios is a natural light portrait studio located in downtown Hollywood. I work collaboratively with my clients to create and design portrait art wall displays. My portrait sessions don’t include digital files since I focus on the tangible pieces of portrait art. Building a business is definitely not for the faint of heart. Starting a photography business with just a camera and an elementary education degree was scary and lead to more than one identity crisis. That was one of the biggest obstacles. But over the years of building my little brand and having three kids, I’ve realized that true job satisfaction comes with doing for those around you. Getting involved in the community and help those who are truly making a difference for those around us. Aligning myself with non-profits that I’m passionate about and using photography to either help them tell their visual story or to raise money for their mission is truly what lights my fire.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Can we just sit on the beach at the Fontainbleau for a week?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A shoutout to my husband for following along with all my crazy ideas. I’m lucky to have a really amazing family. A network of grandparents, aunts and uncles that have always been a support system.
