Meet CQ | Independent Pop Recording Artist
We had the good fortune of connecting with CQ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CQ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2020 I started my own independent music label “Red Bang Theory Inc.” and signed myself as an independent artists under the name “The CQ Experiment”. I chose the independent path because I craved creative freedom, wanted to be in control of my artistic direction, and desired to be my own boss. In the traditional music industry, artists are often constrained by the agendas of major labels, compromising artistic vision for commercial success. Being in control of every aspect of the label enables me to make decisions that align with my artistic integrity and vision, ensuring that my work remains authentic and true to myself. As my own boss, I have the flexibility to set my own schedule, pursue projects that resonate with me personally, and chart my own path in the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a New York-based Pop recording artist and songwriter, I think of myself as a soulful storyteller with an edge, weaving together dance, rock, and R&B into what I call “The CQ Experiment.” I want people to feel connected with one another and understood when they listen to my music. The CQ Experiment is a voyage of self-discovery, encouraging listeners to embrace their creativity, celebrate their uniqueness, and dare to dream big.
I’m rooted in the world of theater, where every performance is a chance to immerse myself in the drama of the moment. At the same time while in creation mode, I can be a total introvert. I’ve spent countless hours in the studio crafting songs for myself and other emerging artists. I released my first single during my time with a local indie label. Since then, it’s felt like showing you a photo of a shoe without the whole outfit! But now it’s finally time to unveil my entire project to the world!
Think Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Dua Lipa, but with my own unique twist. I’m beyond excited about my upcoming single release, “Radio”. It’s got a catchy beat, uplifting vibes, and a playful twist on lyrics. It will have you, your mom, and even your pet dancing along.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the heart of New York City, I love doing a few special things. Fashion Week is a big deal for me because I’m really into fashion and seeing all the new styles. Walking around Soho is another favorite; I enjoy checking out the cool street fashion there. And when I’m hungry, grabbing a tasty burger at Soho Burger or some delicious tacos at Taco Dumbo hits the spot. I also love browsing for vintage stuff at Crossroads. It’s like going on a treasure hunt, finding unique pieces that make my time in the city even more special. Plus, catching live music at underground venues like The Village Underground adds another layer of excitement to my city adventures.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Gary who has been my number one fan since day one. As my best friend, other half and Executive Producer of my music project, he has limitless belief in me as an artist, entrepreneur, and human being. He remains the most positive force in everything I do. I also want to shout out all the brave female business owners who I’ve met along my journey who understand what it is to have a calling in this world as well as the importance of positive encouragement and companionship while building the life we can be proud of.
