We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Pelaez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has played a huge role in all areas of my life, but not until the last couple of years where I have been much more in tune with myself and my emotions. The risks that I’ve taken in my career are exactly what have allowed me to create a fulfilling life for myself, and the risks that I’ve taken in love are what have allowed me to expand so much as a person. While taking risks can be scary and full of uncertainty, I believe that when the risk is really intentional and aligned with how you feel, there are no mistakes to be made. When you make calculated decisions from your heart and allow the right emotions to guide you, every choice and every result that comes from it is filled with purpose. In my experience with this, everything that comes after the taken risk becomes a stepping stone to where you are meant to be. Even the wrong turns and detours on the way there are full of lessons, love, and guidance if you remain present with yourself through the journey. With trust and self love, every risk I’ve taken has led me to so much more passion, fulfillment, and success than I’ve ever even expected.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an emotional health coach focused on helping others heal their relationship to their emotions and guiding them through their emotional explorations through the lens of self-love and curiosity. I think what sets me apart from other coaches in the wellness space is that I inject my practice with my personal experiences and share my own vulnerabilities with my clients. This helps us connect more deeply and shift the perspective towards challenging emotions to one where my clients are able to see all the beauty that comes with everything they’re feeling. I’m only in the beginning stages of this new career path and have already grown so much through it. I’m so excited to continue feeling deeply and connecting with others through the emotions that we all share in common. I truly believe that the ability to feel is a gift and I’m passionate about showing others the power and love that they can cultivate through the exploration of their emotions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best things Miami has to offer are beaches, amazing food, and so much vibrant life. Some of my favorite beaches to hit up are North Beach in Key Biscayne and Haulover Beach in North Miami. These spots are a lot more calm than typical South Beach and it’s where you’ll find the locals getting some sun. It’s hard to choose favorites when it comes to restaurants because there are so many options! But for someone that’s visiting for a short while I’d say the can’t miss spots are LoKal in Coconut Grove for burgers, Paperfish in Brickell for sushi, Doggi’s on Coral Way for arepas, and Lung Yai Thai Tapas in Calle 8 for Thai! Some of my other favorite spots to walk around in the city are Upper Buena Vista, Miami Design District, Miami Beach, and Cocowalk.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here right now, living out my purpose, if it wasn’t for my friends who have believed in me since day 1. It takes a lot of confidence and courage to start over and go against everything you’ve ever known. Thank you to everyone who has been there, pushed me, and trusted me even when I was doubtful of myself.
