We had the good fortune of connecting with Damarys and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damarys, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is what started my swimsuit line! My sister said “Hey if I’m going to keep altering and snipping these already paid for pieces for you, you might as well start from scratch! Why don’t you do it yourself?”. With little to no influence or social media following, I decided, this is what I’m going to invest my money and my being into!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to believe my brand is set apart simply by the custom handmade designs. We design with all body shapes in mind. I like to produce provoking designs that seduces a woman’s sexiest nature. Professionally, I wanted to develop a product that didn’t separate itself from my personal self too much. My followers could always catch me in a bikini, they’d always want to know where I got it. What better way to profit off a brand by using the one thing so many people already know me for? It’s been a mission, it hasn’t been easy. You learn quickly that the same people who love to see you in it are not the same people who are buying it. So the development of my demographic is in place, I know who I’m looking for. One lesson I have learned is to not prematurely work with marketing companies haha! Grow your business organically first before handing your brand off to someone else.

I want the world to know, I grew up in a very conservative village on the island of Roatan. The village is mainly known for it’s church culture so I wasn’t allowed to wear the cute bikinis I saw the tourists wearing. I had to fight my way pass a lot of opinions to take charge of who I wanted to be, what I wanted to wear.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not a huge socialite lol any friend visiting me would be 100% down to crack a bottle of wine open and sit on my balcony with cute lights and crack jokes and talk about our poor decision in fashion in 2010 lol.

Miami is full of things to do. I love living here because it is so active on any night. It’s so easy to throw a cute mini skirt on, with some boots and a hot top, and waltz over to Wynwood. We would definitely leave the house, brunch at Little Hen, grab some tacos at El Santo, have a few drinks there. If Sugar ever decides to open back up at EAST Miami, that’s such a good spot. I love it there! There’s a really nice Van Gogh museum happening in the city recently, we’d definitely swing by that. But more than anything, friend, we’re having wine and people watching rom my pool deck or my balcony because any friend of mine, would enjoy that as much as me!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister, Dakie! She is who got tired of altering my swimsuits from other brands and told me to do it myself! I owe you one, sis!
