We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Minsu Blanca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Minsu, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite quotes it’s from Oscar Wilde: “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken” In a world where people are constantly comparing themselves to others, sometimes it’s forgotten the essence and importance of being unique. You don’t need to compare your success or self-worth with anyone else. You don’t have to look like anyone else or act like anyone else. Be yourself, you are a unique spark of the divine. There is so much wonder and amazingness that resides within yourself, that there’s no reason for competition or for comparison. You have something that no one else has, explore it, love it, bring it to life! The day people start realizing the full potential of who they are and what they have to offer in their uniqueness and abilities to this world, it will be the day this world will shift for the better.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Minsu’s Healing Oasis is a beautiful practice that helps each patient on an individual level. There’s no cookie-cutter approach here. Everyone is seen as an individual, based on their own presenting complaint and needs. We treat each person as a whole integrating all of our skills to get to the root of their problem. Because we have trained in many different modalities we can offer our patients a different approach and skill of care on a day to day need. I got here almost by fate. I was lucky enough to attend physiotherapy school in Amsterdam. After completing one of my undergrads at the University of Miami, I was accepted on a scholarship for an accelerated program at what is today The European School of Physiotherapy. Here the education was superb and included long hours of school work and classes. By no means it was an easy program, but I was blessed to graduate with honors and at the top of my class. After working for a few years as a PT I wanted to continue my education. I applied and got accepted to medical school and I was on my way when I found out about healing school during a hypnotherapy session. So instead of uprooting to med school, I ended up staying put and attended 7 years of healing school in Miami. So now I’m able to combine my physiotherapist training with all the holistic modalities and skills that I have learned along the way. Allowing me to treat my patients with a more holistic and complete approach. There were definitely many challenges along the way. We immigrated to the US when I was 12 years old and there was plenty of hardships that were experienced along the way. My mom was a single mom making minimum wage which at that time was $3.75 hr, having to support two children with zero help from the government, We had entered illegally during that time so we got punished by immigration, although she was seeking political asylum due to our family being prosecuted by the communist regime for many years. Thus our life was difficult for many years, and we were not able to receive any assistance outside of what my mother made working as a maid for all those years. Because I was not legally able to get scholarships or assistance for many years, I lost my scholarship to the first university that I attended after completing my first bachelor’s degree. Thus for one year, I was not able to continue my education because I had no means to do so or proof that I had completed my first undergrad. It wasn’t until a year later when my immigration status changed that I was able to enroll on a second undergrad program and complete my education. I also almost didn’t make it to PT school because there was a mixup with my student visa. But I believed that there was a way and that I could make it there and I did! I kept believing that I could do it and get to where I needed to be in life. Determination, hard work and believing in myself allowed me to get to where I needed to be. Thus, one thing I want to tell you it’s that despite the challenges that life throws your way, believe in yourself, your dreams, and your ability to make something positive of your life regardless of the challenges and the negatives that life has presented you with. Trust yourself and your ability to achieve your dreams!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places that are great to experience and see in Miami. I would definitely take her to the beach to enjoy the beautiful ocean that we have and to take in mother nature in this way as well as the history behind Miami Beach. My childhood, teenage and 20’s took place on the beach so I can reminisce along the way. There are so many yummy restaurants that I can take her to depending on what she wants. I have lots of great little spots for Cuban food as well as other types of foods depending on what she craves. I love that we live in a beautiful city that offers variety and flavors to fit all needs. We also have a beautiful zoo so a visit to Metrozoo could be in the works as well. Finally, the Florida keys are so close by so a nice drive there could be in the works for her to experience a different side of south Florida.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate the shoutout to my mom and my daughter. Both were integral parts of where I am today. As I attended healing school my mom came with me every single week after I gave birth to my daughter. This took place from my third year of healing school to my seventh year. By coming with me and taking care of my child while I was in classes I could fully participate in my education and be present for my daughter as well.
