We had the good fortune of connecting with Dane Baraz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I feel like the basic rule of starting your own business is first thinking about what makes you happy or how can I “give back”. In this instance, photography is something I really enjoy and is something that I find quite fulfilling creatively as well as challenging! If you’re only starting a business for money and and nothing els, I’m not sure you’ll feel very fulfilled or happy dedicating so much time into something you don’t enjoy doing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For Photography, I’ve always had a vision. My goal is to shoot people in their best light and really make them look like superstars without over editing and still keeping a natural aesthetic. Preparation was key. I did a lot of research about the technicalities of photography (lighting, editing, equipment, etc) before even buying a camera, so by the time I did purchase my set up, I had everything I need to get the shots I wanted. I mostly rely on natural light so there are challenges on pretty much every shoot haha but it keeps me on my toes. I think a solid lesson to take in if you’re getting into photography is that the “production” side is really important. Don’t go into a shoot and wing it. Plan where you’re shooting, what the model is wearing, the type of shots they need in their portfolio etc beforehand. Be original! expensive cameras won’t make your photos good. Explore, try new things, find your style, play around with editing, and you’ll be really proud of what you bring to the table.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m very outdoorsy and also vegan so id definitely be taking them to some vegan spots like: Love Life Cafe Artichoke & Vine Thatch Hit up oleta park to Kayak Virginia Key to ride bikes Glitch bar is also a cool bar mixed in with different games throughout.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big Shout to Kizzi (@RealLifeKizzi) for being my ride or die support system in everything I do!
